Last year my dog started scratching a lot. The vet assumed it was due to fleas and recommended a 30-day flea treatment. I never found any fleas on her, so I decided to change her diet instead. After much research, I switched her food from supermarket-bought brands to Canidae grain free. The results have been great. She no longer scratches and her coat is thicker and shinier. As a matter of fact, the house is now much cleaner because she does not shed hair.
I buy three or four flavors of this food to give her some variety. She loves them all.
After spending thousands of dollars at the vet because of incessant accidents in the house, our vet recommended exotic pet food like kangaroo. Initially they thought it was worms. Then the diagnosis was that she likely had something similar to ulcerative colitis in humans and testing was recommended every 6 months. $250 per blood test alone! And exotic dog foods are not easily purchased from big box stores. We opted to try Wild Boar as chicken, salmon and regular pork seemed to be epic failures. This brand had great success. She has been accident free and healthy for over 2 years now. She is not food aggressive and seems to enjoy eating it.
Both my Labradors have been fed this for a few years, they eat it readily and are very healthy on it. One is 8 years old the other is 16 years old. No negative issues. They do make more stool as other commenters have said previously because of the higher fiber, but for my 16 year old this is a good thing. All other foods I've had him on gave him diarrhea or loose stools. This is the only one that gives both dogs solid stools, doesn't cause vomiting or make them gassy.
Ordered this for my small dog when we discovered that he had a chicken allergy. The pork flavor is one of the only ones from this brand that does not have any chicken in it at all, so we decided to give it a try. It has been about a week and although our dog is a picky eater, he seems to like it. Also, we are not having the problems of vomiting that we were having with him when he was on a chicken diet. we used to give him earthborn holistic brand, and that worked for about four years of his life, but he developed the chicken allergy and we decided to change to this brand after doing research on the Internet.
Had originally purchased the Candidae lamb 40 pd bag but it upset my dog's stomach. This one is also grain free and much more expensive but it doesn't upset my dog's stomach and that's a plus when it comes to cleaning up. It has significantly helped the shedding as well. My dog used to shed his hair a lot and this has helped in reducing that. His shedding is not as visible. I have a big and small dog so the bite sizes are perfect for both.
Honestly, I don’t know why Amazon has me rating this food on flavor? I mean.. I didn’t taste it? But I gave it a 5 star rating on flavor cause what else can I do? The fur-kids seem to like it.. but they eat a lot of gross stuff too, so.. Yeah. Anyway, ingredients don’t seem to upset tummies and it seems as fresh as a dried meat cereal can be.
Our Staffie loves Canidae! Before switching to this brand, she had extremely dry and itchy skin. I tried topical lotions (formulated for animals) and brushed her daily - but, her skin remained dry and flaky. My neighbor suggested this brand based on his personal experience. During our first bag, I noticed a gradual change in the overall appearance in her coat: it appeared shiny, glossy and smooth. The dry, flaky skin began to disappear and subsequent itching stopped. By the end of our first bag, I was very happy with the switch - and, our Staffie loves the food! We have eliminated all treats, as well. We use her Canidae kibble as "treats" for rewards.
Switched to CANIDAE based on a recommendation and because our Husky rescue suffers severely from zinc deficiency syndrome. That's another story as I've now spent plenty on Vets who know less that I do about this. Anyway, wanted to switch to a quality grain-free food along with the zinc supplement. I'd give more stars BUT we also have 2 Beardies and the breath on all 3 dogs once switched over to CANIDAE will literally knock you over, it's putrid. And it's NOT their teeth, it's definitely from the food. Trying some other brands to see if we can find a way to still live with the dogs....absolutely horrible breath.
My dod "had" a horrible licking his legs & paws food allergy. It was costing me a fortune in vet bills. I decided to try Canadae" & see if would help him. He loved it & by the time I had him on his 2nd bag his licking had stepped. I feel the limited no grain really did the job. I've also changed the flavors gradually after 2 bags. I find he's happier with the change. It's great!
