I thought this was the same as the adult book but with stories about kids. However, it really is just a short children's book, mostly photos. My mistake. It's a cute little book, but not what I was expecting.
After following the 'Humansofny' Instagram page I was very excited to see that there was a book version that I could get for my children. I thought that it would be in the same style as the Instagram account with pictures of the children and then a write up on a question that was asked about their lives. I was very disappointed to find that it's just pictures of children with a few words on each page telling no story whatsoever. Such a shame as I was looking forward to giving my children some insight in to others lives.
I bought the kindle version of this book and was quite disappointed. I thought it was going to be like the actual HONY website with the kids and their stories/profiles, but this is basically a coffee table book with just a collection of photos of children and some generic storyline about how kids are great all over the world. I hoped the story would have more substance but it doesn't. Also, it is INCREDIBLY short, about 20 pages? I felt ripped off, which is sad because I LOVE the actual site. It would have been great to read stories about kids all around the world, instead of just looking at their pictures.
I don't know about this book, it sort of feel like a cash-cow to be honest. Some of the pictures in the other book also appear in this one, so beware of that. The pictures are decent, it sort of tells a little story, but I don't see anything special with this book. I mean, even for children, to which it is targeted, it's not really anything special. I'm landing on 3 stars because I really like the HONY "mission," the Facebook page is amazing, and the "grown ups" book is great, but this book is just not worth it if you ask me
I've a big fan of his Facebook posts from the States and Internationally and I was really looking forward to it. I must say that the quality of this book is rather lacking in the print and the crispness of the photographs (unlike his Facebook b=posts, so maybe it's a resolution issue). My kids enjoy reading it and looking at all the kids, but I would hold off on buying it as a gift for others, as I was originally planning - until the publisher improves the print quality.
