Converter made smaller than the Earlier Version

I received the converter yesterday and was surprised when I opened the box. I have an earlier version of Homeworx PVR150, and thought the newer model would be superior. The converter is made of a light plastic which is 1/2 the size of the previous one. Being light, it makes it unstable on surfaces. Then came the remote control. Also 1/2 the size of the previous version, and also much lighter. Being smaller, the buttons are tiny and are harder to read. Very disappointed with the quality of this product. I decided to return it and keep on using my old Homeworx PVR150.

Je l'utilise (quand il fonctionne) depuis le 20 avril 2022. Au début, je n'était pas sur si c'était moi ou l'appareil. C'est l'appareil, il s'éteint au bout de période différentes. En générale il fait de 5à 15 minutes et après pouff...plus de service, il faut le débrancher pour le repartir. J'ai fait un test pour vérifier si c'était un problème de surchauffe et j'ai déposé un "ice pack" sac de glace autour de l'appareil il a fonctionné 2 heures sans aucunes coupure...Donc! Inacceptable! Est-ce un cas isolé ? Non, je ne crois pas à lire d'autre critique.

L'appareil a été acheté pour le brancher avec un disque dur USB et enregistrer des films à la télévision. Ma principale critique est l'interface usager. La télécommande est lente et le setup a été un peu laborieux. Le disque n'était pas reconnu, il faut le formatter et le configurer. Il y a un bouton qui permet de voir l'horaire des émissions pour un canal et de planifier l'enregistrement d'une émission. Le fichier résultant ne contient pas le nom de l'émission: seulement le canal et l'heure. Le format d'enregistrement est le mts (MPEG Transport Stream), un format que l'on peut convertir avec vlc.

Ce produit fonctionne bien mais des petites lacunes le rend moins bon : Il est très dure d'avoir les mise-à-jour pour l'appareil. La télécommande est très capricieuse et fonctionne seulement quand on se place directement en face de l'appareil. Enfin, il arrive quelque fois que l'appareil de voie plus le disque dur, alors l'enregistrement programmé ne s'effectue pas !!!

J'aime le fait de pouvoir enregistrer des émissions télé avec l'antenne sans frais de cablodiffusion. Cet appareil comme d'autres qui lui ressemble accompit cette tâche. Malheureusement le manuel d'instruction écrit en très petit caractère et traduit en français de manière laborieuse n'est pas clair sur un point essentiel: quelle sorte de clé USB faut-il prendre? Une clé en Fat 32 ou en Fnts? ou un disque dur externe? Il faut savoir que le disque dur doit avoir son alimentation indépendante - j'ai lu cela sur un site Web- sous peine de briser le système. Il me semble que pour un point aussi important les instructions devraient être très claires et ce n'est pas le cas. aujourd'hui les clé usb sont en format exfat. est-ce compatible? personne le sait. Dans le cas le système ne reconnaissait pas ce format de clé. la seule clé qui fonctionnait était une clé 4 GIG Fat32 Lexar mais cette marque là n'existe plus dans ce format, vous voyez le problème. Le constructeur devrait suggérer des modèles précis de disque dur ou de clé usb quitte à les vendre avec la machine.

Get the HW-150PRV instead

Mine works very well as a tuner, but not as a PVR. The advertising says that this can be used with USB 2.0 or 3.0 devices, but mine didn't work at all with any USB 3.0 flash drive or disk, either 2.5" or 3.5" self-powered; the drive isn't recognized and plugging it in causes the tuner to respond slowly to controls and sometimes crash. I didn't want to use a USB 2.0 device because a flash drive is too slow (the recording stutters) and nobody sells USB 2.0 hard disks anymore, at least I couldn't find one. I emailed Mediasonic and they answered that I should use a USB 2.0 or 3.0 hard drive, which doesn't at all explain why it doesn't work with any USB 3.0 drive. I suspected that the power supply might be insufficient, and the HD-150PVR has a built-in power supply, so I decided to take a chance on it and ordered one from the same vendor.. I was in a hurry to get something that works, and I can afford to experiment, so I also ordered units from 2 other manufacturers. All 3 of the new units do work with USB 3.0 devices, and surprisingly my 64GB Rage flash drive works perfectly, with no stuttering. I find the HD-150PVR to be better than the other 2 units I ordered. So, even though I had trouble with one Mediasonic product and customer service wasn't helpful, I do recommend the Mediasonic HD-150PVR as a better choice than the HD130STB.

Encountered functionality issues !

I bought this digital converter box to enable OTA transmissions because I broke the antenna input port that came with the tv. Needed hdmi cable to receive high definition and normal aspect screen ratio .

The remote control doesn't work and, I am waiting for the replacement . Currently, I am using my (1)TV's remote to control volume and, use (2) the Converter box faulty remote for everything else.

Once I receive the replacement remote and the unit works then, I will keep it! Unfortunately, the replacement remote doesn't work either !

My advise is to steer away from this particular model !

Can't judge HD picture quality as there are no HD broadcasts in my area, only SD but that's fine and certainly better than analog. Later discovered this device has an issue with latency as the video lags behind audio occasionally. Powering the unit off and on to reboot and reset it fixes the fault. Manufacturer should fix this

Before purchasing this unit I inquired on what the difference was between it and HW-150PVR unit and I was informed by Mediasonic that they were the same unit and that the HW130STB was newer but it used an external wall adapter. They are not quite the same unit - the pass through option on HW130STB only works if the unit is turned off. This was very disappointing because if I want to watch one TV show and record another I am unable to do it unless I use a splitter. This degrades the signal (:.
