This machine rocks. I run a FTP and This cloud PR4100 so two NAS. It preforms as expected set up perfectly. Firmware installed with out any problems. NO down Time. All drives sit at normal operating temps. Memory load is at 2% with 16 gigs installed. I use this for large 4k uhd files some are as large as 80gigs I have over 7TB of ISO on it not counting other folders. It sits on a cat 8 hard line and I run Kodi on all of my devices no problems
I was running a RAID 5 configuration with my Plex server running off the PR4100. One drive failed last week, WD sent out another drive to replace it. When I put the new drive in I lost all data on the 3 other drives as the RAID was unable to rebuild. WD support was India based and offered no solutions to what was the only job of the RAID, replicating and protecting data. Make sure you have another backup source to your NAS. Currently looking at data recovery options. The NAS worked well until the drive failed leaving me frustrated and irritated.
The software is abysmal. I was able to access it on a windows 7 laptop. I copied everything to my this POS before changing to a new laptop. Now I have a new windows 10 laptop and now can't access it. I'm sure there is some way but it shouldn't take hours how to figure it out. I'm still trying now.
This unit has functioned really great thus far. I have a smaller 4TB MyCloud that is not nearly as fast and uncomplicated as this unit. Now if some of these Apps will allow storage on something besides what they sell, it would be nice also. Really Good Unit
Bought this primarily for housing and running my Plex media server. Was a little skeptical as to whether it could properly handle and stream to multiple connections, but so far it has performed as advertised. Very happy with this purchase!
Out off the box cooling fan did not work. Worked with Western Digital customer service. Device defective. Set up Amazon return. I purchased the device for $1,299. To get replacement it will now cost me $1,599. Not going to happen!!
Only into my second day with the product but it certainly seems excellent to me. For those who complain of noise, I believe even WD admits some of the largest drives have that issue, but inside a small room with less than 6' away I can't even hear it. It was absolutely simple to set up, though I admit I do have some technical experience. It was already configured RAID 5, exactly what I wanted, so that was helpful. Followed directions, plugged it into the network, plugged it into the wall, turned it on and it continued that simple. Give it a name, I set mine to a static IP (it comes on as HDCP), and from there pretty much just started using it. The only drawback I've noticed so far is it can be a bit slow to respond, as if it is in "sleep mode" often. Haven't had time to search for an explanation yet but I will. I have streamed high-def movies from it already (using Plex) and it seems flawless. Cross your fingers! :)
