Good design, quality construction. It's pretty obvious who the main customer for this product is but I bought mine to clone woodier ornamental bushes like loropetelum and azaleas. My failure rate for my first batch is 14 out of 20 so far and I don't see roots on the cuttings I still have, they just haven't withered away yet. Probably all my fault: I'm using outside in the middle of a heat wave and I inadvertently placed it in about 2 hours of direct sunlight; additionally, I have not changed the water and have unplugged the bubbler a couple times because I needed the outlet. My bad. Hopefully, I can make the necessary adjustment and get better results.
As far as the 90+% of people who might want this for an indoor grow: I do not recommend ordering this product from Amazon as the packaging was not discrete at all! It arrived in its retail packaging (a colorful box that shows exactly what it is) rather than nestled inside of a wastefully large, generic cardboard box like Amazon does for EVERY OTHER ITEM I'VE EVER PURCHASED!!! It might as well call the people on you
People that complain about failing to get things to root likely is something you are doing not usually the cloner. With that said I do not use the internal pump. I use the method I have been use to. I use the air stone plus an additional one. I fill the water higher so the stem bottoms are submerged and toss in some clear rez every 5 days. I'm getting roots constantly. Might take me a couple weeks, but they show up while the tops still look healthy. Also keeping the clones out from under direct lights help. Maybe some ambient light away from high powered grow lights including T-5's. You want it to root not to photosynthesize. Cuttings will stay green for quite awhile without direct light. I started new. So trying to clean, sanitize and re-use with success remains to be seen but I assume will work fine. I have learned that keeping the same cloner for years is unwise. Sometimes it is better to start fresh. This cloner has solved my ongoing issues with a daisy cloner I had for 8-10 years. If I have to I will buy a new cloner yearly to ensure sanitary conditions. As I feel the aging of the plastic makes it more porous for pathogens to hold on.
great construction but I would recommend picking up another air stone for other side as without it I have 4 spots that have very poor success rate. the other 16 work great! However I just added another air stone to the other side and everything is good, all 20 spots have great success rates with the addition of a 2nd air stone!
I own the 20 and 80 site units. I have given these four stars but I do not use any of the pumps or other hardware that comes with it. I needed the plastic shell so I could convert these into hybrid hydroponic/fogponic cloners.
The 20 site system came with a defective air pump. I haven't tried the pumps with the larger unit but they appear to be the exact same items. They both arrived undamaged and in good condition.
I have these setup with an external reservoir and a fog bucket with positive air pressure that pipes the fog into the basin. To do this, I had to cut two holes in the plastic basin shell; one for the water line going to the spray nozzles I added and another for the drain, which also serves as the fog pipe.
These units do work if you use them as intended. They work pretty well. I wanted something I didn't need to lift the tray out of to add/change water. The fogger was just an addition that the cuttings love. I use indole butyric acid in liquid form for the reservoir and between the rooting hormone, the hydro sprayers and the fogger, I can get cuttings to root in as little as 5 days.
I would recommend these to anyone starting out wanting to do deep water culture cuttings. They'll work out just fine. I could recommend these for anyone wanting to have a cheap starting place to build a custom cloner as well. I've rooted many cuttings, started many seeds and pretty much grown plants on this thing; sometimes they end up staying on there far too long lol.
I'll try and add some pictures of the 80 site unit when I get it all settled in.
For my low scores on thickness and warmth. Neither applies to this product in anyway. I ha d purchased one and it worked great ! So I got another. Not so much. Missing parts and once I replaced what was missing it still didn’t work as well as the first one I purchased. However I was contacted by their customer service team. They made me great offers to rectify the situation. I choose the option that best suited my needs in the situation. If you buy this and have any issues.... their customer service will help you well ! It’s. It offer you get great customer service these days. So this company has its mind on its customers rather than its pockets.
This thing suprised me I didn't think it was going to work after 5 days I couldnt spot any root growth so I gave up on it but left it running because cuttings were still green and perky not wilting. Forgot about it for about a week. I needed the space it was in so started to remove cuttings and realized I could not the roots on them were average 2 - 3 feet long and they had tangled with each other and made a birds nest of roots. So I guess it does work pretty well had a few that did not root but may have been operator error not sure but worth further experimenting with it.
I would buy again. The only reason I gave it 4 star instead of 5, the air stone that comes with it didn't work worth a crap. Luckily I run some Hydro and had stones laying around. You need a lot of air/water movement to grow roots this way. The stone they sent didn't barely move any air at all. So I put 4 small air stones in there and this thing works great ! I probably went over board with 4 stones, but now it works like a charm big roots really quick
The cloner works great, lots of roots in just a few days, but the foam collars are not that great. They get wore out after a couple runs , especially after sterilizing them. They shrink and fit loose, witch there loose fitting from the get go. I'm going to order some perma clone collers to replace the original ones that come with the cloner.
