My baby wasn't gaining weight in the first few weeks after she was born due to problems breastfeeding and I really think purchasing this scale was worthwhile. It works perfectly - my engineer husband checks it every once in a while by weighing a litre of water - and really gave me peace of mind. I was worried about the comments in the reviews about the weight changing a lot on the read out but it's a bit like a kitchen scales, you just pick the one in the middle, no problem. Now that she is thriving I have it in her nursery and weigh her once a week to make sure she is getting bigger. This is also very handy for people who are having problems breastfeeding as you can weigh the baby before and after a feed to see how much they are getting. Unfortunately my supply was low but it was great to n ow approximately how much formula she needed.
We ordered this set of digital scales with a different use in mind. My family and I work with a small animal rescue which focuses mainly on cats, kittens and rabbits, we often take in sick and injured animals and their weight is followed closely in preparation for them being re-homed. This scale makes weighing small animals so much easier and we can ensure they are receiving the right amount of medication as well as checking as they grow stronger and gain weight.
The scales are very simple to use and take 2 x AAA batteries which the seller has kindly included, they have a simple on off switch and another which will move you through the settings: kg, lb & st:lb. The display is LED and bright blue, it is very clear to read and results are fast, which is exactly what we need as kittens do not stay still for long! I have tested the scale with various food items and it is accurate even if the weight is not in the middle of the scale.
The scales are reasonably lightweight and thin so you can pack them away easily and they are very simple to clean and sanitize
These scales were dreadful. I'd ignored the reviews saying they were inaccurate and thought of try for my self. Well I got wildly different readings measuring static items, let alone a wriggly baby. A 5kg dumbbell fluctuated between 3.6kg and 7.2kg. It was on a flat surface and I just lifted it on and off. Have shelled out the extra money and got a Marsden scale, the same as my IBCLC uses. Much more accurate.
The scale is well made and very easy to use - however it can be tricky to ensure accuracy. The feet must be placed on not only a hard / stable surface but also a very level one. When you have a wriggling little one on the scale, or can be tempting to try this on carpet or the floor, which will mean inaccurate readings.
Furthermore there is no feature to let the scale “settle” and sit on a reading - meaning you have to watch the numbers carefully as they “dance” if you have a very active baby.
As a cat breeder this is a great help. I us it for the girls during there pregnancy to keep an eye on there progress. I do have to put the cats in a carry box to ensure they are fully on and for long enough for me to read it but as I us the same box every time it is great for seeing there weight gain (or not)
I bought this to weigh my cats. One of them is on a diet so it saves numerous visits to the vet. It does tend to jump about a bit when I put a cat on it but once the cat stays still I can get a reading. When I recently took the overweight cat to the vets it was only 10gms out compared to the vet’s scales. So I’m going to find it very useful in monitoring my cats’ weights.
Nice scales but are a bit temperamental depending on which surface they are used. Get minor differences in the readings between different hard floors however they give a fairly good indication on weight. Also a tad small now our baby is 7 months old so probably not worth buying unless they are used from new born.
i bought this because i am breastfeeding and my little boy was underweight more than 10% after the first 5 ays after he was born , so i needed to keep track of his weight to be sure he was gaining weight , it worked perfectly !
