This cable is working perfectly with my Dell laptop which has a thunderbolt 3 port & an HDMI Port. I have been looking to connect & extend my screens to two separate displays & everyone suggested to just get a docking station which the genuine Dell costs around $200+ & the other third-party ones on amazon are minimum $100.
After reading reviews, I decided to give this a try & this works perfectly. Now, one monitor is connected via HDMI cable & the other using display port via this cable on the thunderbolt 3 connector. Now, I am writing this review while Amazon on one display and my work applications on another display. That's right, now I can do shopping & work at the same time. Woo hooo!
Lastly, the biggest confusion I had was whether a USB-C cable will work on Thunderbolt 3 port. From what I have read, thunderbolt 3 port are backward compatible with USB-C but USB-C port is not compatible with Thunderbolt3. So if you have a thunderbolt 3 port your machine, the chances are usb-c cables will work for you as it did in my case.
I bought a new Apple MacBook Pro laptop (i5 quad core, 16 gb RAM and 1 TB SSD) from the Apple online store. Ordered this cable at the same time so I could connect to my LG 29 inch monitor that has worked well with my 2013 MB Pro. No luck, it would not work at all.
I decided I would prefer the 15.4 inch MB Pro so I returned the 13 inch and order the 15.4. Before returning the USB-C to Display Port cable I decided to wait to see if it work with the 15.4 inch MBP. Received the 15.4 today (8 core i9, 32 gb RAM and 1 TB SSD) and connected this cable - NO LUCK. Nothing. So it has to go back. I was really hoping it would work so i'd have two cables.
I took the precaution of ordering a Moshi cable from Apple - a lot more expensive but much higher quality. It also arrived today. I connected it and it worked immediately. So now i have to go through the return effort with Amazon. Hope that won't be a pain in the ........ well, neck.
Update: 7 months in the cable just stopped working. No signal through it at all. That's a ridiculously short lifespan.
Using this with a MacBook Pro 2017 and LG 4K 60hz display. Works perfectly. Previously I was using a USB-C hub and it would take 10-20 seconds for Signal to work on the very same monitor. With this cable it’s near-instant; as quick as the monitor can turn on.
What to say about this cable? It connects one thing, to another thing, and then BOTH THINGS WORK!! I couldn't believe it. I thought to myself, this must be some type of new ultra tech, so I purchased another one, and it does the exact same thing as the other one. The form factor is amazing... it's mate black finish goes so well with all the other cables I have you can't even tell it wasn't an original part!
I can't recommend this cable enough if you need to connect a DP to a USB-C/ Thunderbolt. The snap lock on the DP connector is very nice as well.
Used this to add two 1440p/60hz monitors to a Lenovo 920 (with latest bios and latest USB-C firmware v55)
1. I plugged this cable from laptop USB-C to DisplayPort on first monitor, then connected DisplayPort out to DisplayPort in on second monitor using an additional DisplayPort cable. 2. Set both monitors to DisplayPort daisy chain mode enabled 3. Changed mode in Windows from mirror display to extend display - all screens now appear in sequence. All run at 60Hz.
I had been having issues with only getting 30Hz when using my macbook pro and a new 4K monitor. I had tried different hdmi cables and adapters. The reviews on this USB C to displayport adapter looked good so I gave it a try. I plugged it in and it worked immediately. I was able to verify that it is driving 60Hz which is much easier on the eyes.
works out of box for both my desktop and laptop with 2K 144Hz monitor @ 144Hz. workmanship looks good, but can't say for durability yet as I just got it. However, cable matters seems to be a great brand. so will buy again.
Like many USB-C peripherals, the cost is always high. Still, you get what you pay for. USB-C to DisplayPort is not a common conversion but this cable worked well between my Asus Zenbook Pro and Dell monitor. Always good to check with your computer and monitor supplier in advance. CableMatters also has a good website with a lot of info on USB-C. Good company to deal with.
