We had the D3 for about 1 month and it was fantastic... then the issues started. The robot for no reason at all just stopped working, was able to connect to wifi, but as soon as you hit start, it would reboot and then you would have to restart and reconnect. Contacted Neato and all they were able to provide me was to restart the robot and reconnect and pass on any information (which I did). Following the 2 weeks of back-and-forth of emails, they finally told me that since I purchased it off Amazon AU they weren't able to help me with repairs/warranty. Good Product if it works, bad company to deal with if you live in Australia - wouldn't recommend buying if in Australia. Returned through Amazon AU.
I was excited about this new model. I have owned the XV and the Botvac models. Both have lasted for years with proper maintenance and it was time for an upgrade. The Neato App is a clunky and not very helpful. I did manage to connect it to WiFi using my Android 9 tablet. Once connected it required a firmware update which installed the new feature of economy cleaning which extends cleaning or the regular cleaning cycle. However, after updating it couldn't find my WiFi and it took me 1 hour to connect it once it had updated. After my first run it kept telling me that the dirt bin was full. It was not full. It wasn't even 1/8 full. I emptied it and it continued to tell me that it was full. That went on for days. I owned it for less than 1 week and it suddenly it would not connect whatsoever to WiFi. Nor would it run manually. The app could not connect. The red light never stopped flashing. I did a hard reboot and it still would not function. So I boxed it up and returned it. Never again will I buy a connected version of Neato. They are simply not ready for prime time.
This vacuum is good at cleaning the floor. That said I have some major complaints. I am unable to get what I wanted, which is scheduled periodic cleanings without any input from me, whether or not I am in the building.
It requires close supervision. Any protrusion from the floor with height between 1 and 3 inches will cause it to get stuck. It eventually turns around, but it is extremely frustrating to watch it get stuck on the same table support. Again and again. This also causes it to miss some spots. You can get a rough idea of this by looking at the circular tower near the rear. Anything below the dome of the tower, it can't "see."
You have to robot-proof your house. If you have dining chairs with a support between the legs that is above its "view plane," but low enough to catch the top of the tower (almost 4"), it will get stuck, dragging the chair and possibly damaging the unit. I solved the chair problem by using foam blocks to elevate the chair, allowing the unit to pass underneath. But this obviously requires set-up and renders automatic cleanings impossible.
If you, a housemate, or a cat leaves anything on the floor, such as a charging cord, a sock, a toy mouse, the robot will ingest the item and shut down with the item wrapped tightly around the spindle. Therefore before each use you must perform a thorough inspection of the entire cleaning area and remove such items from the floor. I realize this is probably something that can't be avoided, but this also prevents automation. Perhaps adding some kind of "plough" or wiper in front would help.
It is rather loud. If you are watching TV you cannot hear the TV over the robot.
It is not suitable for spot-cleaning. If you have made dust on the floor and want it vacuumed, it seems the robot will go *everywhere* except for the 1'x1' square you want it to. Sometimes requiring 15min to clear such a small area. Trying to redirect it with your feet or another object will cause even more frustration as the robot does not like to be redirected. It just won't go in a straight line from where you started it.
I had an issue when I first got it where it would lose connection to my phone after each use, requiring me to go through the setup process again. Each time. This was fixed by binding a permanent address to the robot through wifi router (static IP). Since then it has not lost connection.
If you use a VPN, you may or not be able to use it with the robot.
The floormap is cool, but the robot/app periodically and inexplicably "loses" the floormap, requiring you to generate another one. This is extremely annoying if you have created "no-go" zones to prevent the chair problem described above.
Phenomenal! 1000x better than the silly little round thing we tried before. They’ve improved them over the years and made the dust bin bigger. I just empty once a day and we’re set. I have 2 massive shedding dogs and I used to sweep all my hard floors every 24-48 hours otherwise it would pile up. I now sweep and mop just once a week!
The neato bot works fine but it gets stuck under every single piece of furniture in my house, every chair, every sofa, soooooo Not worth the money when you constantly have to go rescue it! As far as setting it on a schedule for the week, forget it. You'll be running around your house when you get home trying to find the damn thing!
