'Draken' by S B Nova, was a reasonably good fantasy tale of adventure, mystery and identity (written for the YA demographic and to be enjoyed by older readers, too). I liked the descriptive imagery of the magical world and the characters were interestingly flawed. Nova's writing was good at times and you could tell the author has the makings of a natural story-teller. But the beginning of the book was sluggish and a few other sections were clumsy or overwritten, imo. 'Draken' was a good bit of escapism, but was not as tight and well written as 'A Kingdom of Exiles'. Still worth a read for fans, though. As it's part of a series the plot and characters will develop in the future, no doubt.
The world S.B Nova creates is truly a unique place to emerse yourself in. I was so disappointed to have the book end and having read Draken I can’t wait too see what else she has in store. A book full of adventure, mystery and magic. Really loved this
I'd been really looking forward to reading this book for a while, as I'd heard about it through a newsletter, and it was every bit as good as I'd hoped. I now hope the author hurries up and writes a second one! It was easy to read, and the characters were all interesting and easy to connect with. I'm looking forward to seeing how the story progresses. If you enjoy fantasy, you'll enjoy this.
Although I am only a few chapters in so far, this novel already has me captivated! S. B. Nova's characters are relatable and accessible, plus the way she writes really invites the reader along to join them on their journey. I am very much looking forward to seeing how things unfold in The Southern Fire series and what lies ahead, both for characters and author!
Always nervous with a new fantasy writer but I wasn't disappointed. I really enjoyed the journey I undertook with Skyla and Ruby, both very likeable young ladies. Only problem? Waiting for next instalment! Hope it won't be long.
