How are ratings calculated?
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.

2.0 out of 5 stars Just not for me

Less than a quarter of the book is dinner recipes. I am looking for ways to add more veggies to my daily life, but I don't consume a lot of snacks, desserts, breakfasts or party drinks, and I don't want to be soaking cashews all the time, so this cookbook won't get much use. Prep time is not listed, so you have to read through the whole recipe to figure out how long it will take. The positives: there are a few recipes I would like to try, and the book is beautiful (lots of colorful photographs).

Too many smoothie and snack recipes. Not enough main course entrees.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not my “cup of tea”

I’ll have to gift this book or donate it to a goodwill. I received it last evening after I had already made the granola recipe I got off her website, which is also in this book. Yummy!
I already make my own Epic salads, soups, stewes and such. I can’t stand quinoa, and my body responds better to Meat, vegetables and fruits, not beans, grains and other legumes, nor soy products like tofu. I also try and avoid peanuts and cashews which are also legumes not nuts and highly inflammatory. This book is all about the addition of those items! I do ok with black beans and millet or oats,
basmati rice occasionally. I’ve recently tried Einkorn wheat and it doesn’t seem to bother me either. I can also occasionally eat Ezekiel 4:9 bread. So all in all I think this book has great information, and I like the pictures and layout, I just don’t see myself making any of the recipes other than the granola recipe that’s also on her website!

I ordered due to the high ratings. These recipes are loaded with sugar and fat. May be healthy for a beaf cow but not your heart.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not what I was looking for.

The recipes don't have the normal nutritional values which is very important to me. It just references vegetarian, vegan or not. I am also not interested in the dog info. I did not realize that that would be included. The seller was excellent as the book arrived on time and the physical description was as described.

Just arrived and opened the book for the first time and it fell right out of the binding. I've ordered a replacement, but it's frustrating.

Apart from the broken binding the recipes and pictures seem nice.

2.0 out of 5 stars Stick with the Cookie and Kate Blog, it has better recipes.

I am an avid follower of the Cookie and Kate blog which is why I ordered this book. Kate's blog recipes are always delicious and my husband, a meat-eater, loves them too. Unfortunately the recipes in this book are not of the same quality as what she posts on her blog. Most of the recipes in this book are amateurish...what I would expect on a blog, not a cookbook. There was nothing in this book that I wanted to cook except in the entree section, but there were not enough recipes in that section to merit keeping the book. As a vegetarian, I appreciate Kate's non-vegan approach to vegetarian cooking. I don't want to substitute cashews and nutritional yeast for cheese, flax seeds for eggs, etc. Her blog (and cookbook) make her seem approachable and like an ordinary person who doesn't live in the kitchen....like cocktail recipes. I've made several cocktails off of her blog and they were all fantastic. None of the cocktails in the cookbook inspired me to make one...they looked quite boring compared to what she features on her blog.

In addition to the bland recipes, the recipes did not feature prep time or total time, nor did they have nutritional information.

For Kate's best recipe work, stick with her blog and free recipes. This book was not on par with what I've come to expect from her. If you're looking to purchase a cookbook from a blogger, look at The Minimalist Baker and Oh She Glows. They both feature recipes of equal or greater quality than what you can obtain for no cost on their respective blogs.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not for vegans, dairy is in almost every recipe - disappointed

When you search "vegan" on Amazon, this is one of the first books to come up by highest rating first. I thought this would have vegan recipes but there is dairy everywhere. She doesn't always give vegan options for the recipes either. I just don't have much use for it, as I've recently cut 95% of all dairy from my diet. If you're newly vegetarian but not ready for veganism, this is for you. I'm reselling the copy I bought. It is a beautiful book with great photos.
