How are ratings calculated?
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.

3.0 out of 5 stars Quinoa, kale, sweet potatoes ....

A bit disappointed, it feels as though she’s been advised to pitch this book to hit the ‘trend’ foods, so loads of recipes for the vegan favourites of quinoa , kale and sweet potatoes, none of which I’m very keen on unfortunately, lacking the verve and diversity of her blog. A few nice recipes, her food always works.. but quinoa stuffed sweet potato anyone.... ? can we not move on from these ingredients now..? There is a world of other foods out there.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice recipes but American measurements

I’d come across Kates fab blog/insta and saw she had a cookery book out. It’s really well written and and has lovely photos. She’s gone to a lot of trouble to give various options depending on dietary requirements and made the recipes easy to follow. However from an English person point of view all the recipes are in American weights which are so very different to UK. Cups aren’t a weight and there isn’t a conversion chart in the book. I’ve not heard of many of the ingredient names so have had to google to work out what they are in the UK. Also the equipment names are even different. Dutch oven and skilllet? I’d not heard of either. But all that said it’s a lovely book for vegetarians with some unusual and creative ideas. I have no criticism of the recipes at all, it would just be good to have UK equivalents in the book as Kate has a large Uk following too.

3.0 out of 5 stars Recipes don’t appeal
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 1 August 2021

Came upon this through Zoe symptom study app encouraging healthy eating. Lots of interesting and healthy ingredients but not my style of meals. US bias on ingredients and recipes which manage to completely miss the mark for me. I like to experiment and try new recipes but really can’t find one I’m tempted to try. Ending on a positive note I will explore using some of the ingredients I’m unfamiliar with and look for recipes can relate to.

3.0 out of 5 stars Vanilla Ice Cream
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 31 October 2020

If vanilla ice cream was a book. Delicious but a bit boring.

The recipes in this book are good but they’re all very ‘safe’. On Cookie and Kate’s blog she’s pretty adventurous with food and comes up with some ideas and recipes that are delicious and inventive. This book feels like the a more blah selection, and has been clearly set out to be mass market appealing. I could see this appealing to my mum in law but this was a bit boring and safe for me and it would be for most true experimental foodies who like to try new things i.e Korean Fried Cauliflower, West African Jollof rice, Brazilian Feijoada and cuisines that go beyond the mainstream ‘Mexican and Thai’. Love the blog though 👍

3.0 out of 5 stars Blog is better

I'm a huge cookie and kate fan and was really excited to get the cookbook. Unfortunately I was disappointed as there were few exciting recipes. Most seemed like safe vegetarian favourites, which is ok but not the inspiring collection I was hoping for. I think the book is good for someone who isn't familiar with the blog but it doesn't really have a better recipe collection.

3.0 out of 5 stars Book came damaged

I really like the book. Recipes looks great. Picture for every recipe.
However, the book came damaged and now the pages are falling out.
Amazon’s fault not the author
Was going to give as a gift but can’t now.

3.0 out of 5 stars This is a good vegetarian book for beginners
Reviewed in Canada on 19 July 2017

This is a good vegetarian book for beginners. The pros: Nice pictures and few good suggestions. The cons: There are too few recipes for main courses and too many recipes for drinks and appetizers. Many recipes in the book are bland. The writer doesn't seem to be an experienced chef (one does not add coconut milk at the beginning of the cooking process, as she suggests, but at the end). If you like simple, healthy, vegetarian dishes, you'll like the book. If you look for sophisticated recipes with rich flavours, go for Ottolenghi.
