A beautiful colour cover for a very disappointing book. A collection of stories by American women about Greece, where there is no deepness, no insight, no going beyond banality and superficiality with a real pleasure in describing, more than once, furry chested Greek men and their sexual abilities. I did expected something more being a true lover of Greece and her world (ancient and modern), and it is appalling these women have not found anything else under this superficial crust made of "furry" men, "moussaka", fish soup etc. Please, dont waste your time and money with this book!
I enjoyed the stories in this book. I only wish my copy had arrived before we left for Greece! I ordered it from Amazon marketplace 2 weeks before the trip, but apparently that is not enough time. The stories are from very diverse perspectives, about different places in Greece, though most of them are from the 1970s and 80s so things have changed a lot.
This book sensually and sensitively emits to me the magical feeling of my past treasured visits to Greece. The details are accurate, the country's niches are captured in such truth and color, and I felt transformed again. Thank you for your wonderful book!
After reading the reviews, I bought this book as preparation for my upcoming trip to Greece. Disappointed by the superficial caracter of the histories:some weathy women's trip and their narrow views on Greek culture;over Greek machisme; some superficial experience of Greek food, etc. I did not learn much from their stories and even, it's waste of time. Now I learn that the reviews of others would not correspond always to that of everyone.
