4.0 out of 5 starsGreat intro and practice with Wireshark
Reviewed in the United States on 14 June 2017
This is a good book if you want or need some practical examples of wireshark packet analysis. It will walk you through probably the most common use cases a sysadmin or network admin will encounter day to day, It does not cover every aspect of wireshark, if it did it would have to be huge and it is maybe a security primer. For the most part this book will help you troubleshoot network issues and application issue by doing a packet capture and learning how to ready and filter it. IT is current for the version it covers but keep in mind they update wireshark all the time, so its always possible there are some functionality changes, but normally those are additions. The core function of Wireshark hasn't changed in years, and that is what the book will help you learn to use.
4.0 out of 5 starsGreat Book on Network Analysis, with a Focus on Wireshark

I briefly had a career as a network technician, and network sniffers were an area where I was lacking experience. Over the years, I have come to understand and appreciate their capabilities. This book does a great job of filling in the details I was missing so many years ago.
This book isn't particularly thick, but is densely packed with good information. It covers basic network information, packet analysis, Wireshark, security, wireless, and troubleshooting. It is all written in a clear, and concise way.
I like how this is the third edition of this book, and it is nice to see the author keeping up with the latest developments.
I am confident that this book will help anyone from the beginner to the seasoned pro. There's something here for everyone.
