The Philips Muscari is a ceiling light designed to illuminate an entire room. It includes a pre-paired Philips Hue dimmer remote so the unit could operate without the Hue app/hub if required.
The unit is packaged well with instructions sufficient for a qualified electrician to understand. It comes with a pair of gloves to keep the unit clean during installation.
It's important to note the serial number before he installation as it's tough to access it after. The serial number is required to add the unit to the hue system (it's not detected otherwise) and doing so will unpair the unit from the included remote. You can then add the remote as a Hue accessory into your ecosystem to control any room/zone/light
We have a open kitchen and living room with two units working in sync as one zone. It's important to keep the firmware at the same version by keeping it up to date. I noticed different brightness output in two units in the open area at the same specified % level and this was resolved after the automatic update took place.
The light itself has a colour temperature ranging from a very cool white to very warm. There are scenes that provide useful combination of brightness and colour temperature which can be toggled from the app or the remote.
The brightness and projection of the light brightly lights up a standard living room / kitchen / bedroom which can be summed to suit. It's far better than Hue globes in a standard fitting.
The light is fully controllable from voice assistants including Amazon Alexa. Each ambience option comes up as a scene so having several if these lights can really add to the scene count in Alexa which could becoke confusing.
Overall the light unit is easy to install and does its job well.
The unit is actually larger than I imagined. I bought 3 to replace 10 year old oyster ceiling lights so the esthetic is definitely improved. The glow on to the ceiling makes the light very attractive and I have had quite a few compliments from guests. As I have already a few Hue light fittings, they fit in very well in the Hue smart home environment. The different light temps give the apartment a high tech feel. Paired with Hue motion sensor, the Muscari became lights for all moods and double as night light. As someone says, " makes the apartment feels so sophisticated".
Impressively bright and gives softer shadows because it is a large light. I got mine installed in my kitchen, needs an electrician to connect up. So not as easy to install as the box says. Bit expensive overall, cost me another $135 bucks for a sparky to swap out a normal light batten. Works perfectly with hue hub and also the dimmer switch that is included.
Great product, quick install for a qualified electrician. The only downside is when it stops working the whole unit, hopefully they last a long time. Light are very bright or very dim, great for setting it low when it's time for my son's bedtime
