It seems like I am a minority in the reviews. I was very intrigued by the blurb and was looking forward to the relationship development and Kate’s interesting backstory, however I was let down.
First of all the relationship between Corwin and Kate. You would think with how much hatred Kate had at the start for Corwin, and there back story there would be a slow but well paced development of over coming her hatred and learning to love him again, or to get over her hatred to fully love him, but that wasn’t the case. There first meeting again was great, however from that point on it went down hill. The development was at an extremely face pace there was no angst, no build up, no actual development over going over her feelings, they just started talking about the ‘old times’
One thing I did like about this novel was the ‘girl saving the prince’ type of factor which I appreciated.
However I could only get through 50% then I had to stop reading it, maybe I will pick it up again when I’m bored but it wouldn’t be something I would make a priority.
Onyx & Ivory has been an absolute pleasure to read, the type of book that is all encompassing and keeps me saying "1 more chapter". For me it's always a joy to discover the wonderful work that authors have on offer. I do wish it was available in Kindle Unlimited.
This is a really good novel. The plot is familiar but the writing style is neat and well paced. The characters are well developed and meaningful. I will definitely get the next one in the series when it comes out! 😁 The loss of the last star is because of the typo in there. 🧐😋
The story whilst not overly new was very well written and I must say if there was a book 2 I wouldn’t hesitate to buy it. Five stars because it was engrossing and I read it all in a crazy quick amount of time.
I love how it gets right into the plot quickly. I like that the mysteries of how this world works is part of the plot so not too much of the story is unnecessarily used to world build. The main romantic relationship already have history so again keeps the story moving well. Looking forward to the sequel and enjoy that it didn't need end on a cliff hanger to keep my interest.
