I’ve had this mp3 player for nearly four weeks.
The build quality is solid, the response from the buttons is spot on, the scroll wheel is far superior in feel than that of another mp3 player I have (you don’t feel that you could put your finger through it) however you can actually navigate round the units’ settings without using the scroll wheel, the back and forward buttons do the same thing. Switching the unit on and off can be a bit fiddly.
The sound quality from this mp3 player via the supplied earbuds is superb. Unfortunately, one size of earbud does not fit all, so if these earbuds don’t suit you, you’ll need to source a decent alternative to get the benefit of the sound quality.
I contacted the seller prior to purchase to clarify if this item was simply drag and drop on a MAC in order to get the music on to the player. Other sellers have claimed this drag and drop feature but when asked it turns out you need a card reader to drag and drop music if you are using a MAC, to me this is time consuming and not convenient. I was relieved to learn from the seller that it is drag and drop on a MAC as I want to get away from a fruit that desires to take over the world, music transfer is a breeze!!
I have a five-year-old tablet that links with my car DAB radio via Bluetooth, version 3 I think, and all the info is sent, i.e. album, artist and song title, unfortunately the Bluetooth version on this mp3 player does not send any information, everything comes up as unknown, this is a huge disappointment. The quality of the sound sent to my car stereo, and a Bluetooth speaker that I have paired it to is not great and nothing like that of my older tablet / version of Bluetooth. I contacted the seller about the Bluetooth function (track information etc., .not the sound quality) and they confirmed that this is known to them, as to whether this will be, or can be, updated in the future via a firmware update, is unknown to me at the time of writing this review as the seller’s answer was vague.
The shuffle feature is limited to any song in any order from the folder you choose to start the shuffle with before it moves randomly to any / all the folders you have put on the supplied memory card, thus playing the folders in any order, again this shuffle arrangement is disappointing, as to whether this can, or will be, updated with a future firmware update is also vague. The seller’s advice was to create play lists, to me, this defeats the purpose of a true shuffle feature.
Once the MP3 players display screen has “gone out” the unit automatically goes in to the “hold” position, something I’ve never needed before, it is something that can not be over ridden and a nuisance for obvious reasons, you have to press the on/off button to activate the controls, then eventually the mp3 player returns back to the hold position. The seller says that they are aware of this issue which is with their R&D department and it will be fixed in a future firmware update, again there was no indication as to when this firmware update might be available as these things take time, yeah, yeah, yeah!!
I also asked the seller when the case would be available in the UK and asked if it was “a clear full face” as the picture on the Amazon web site looked as though it was open faced. They told me the mp3 player was completely protected and the case would be available in the UK sometime, the delay was down to logistics? I ordered one from the USA, total cost was about £22’s, it took two weeks to arrive, no problem with logistics there then, I’m disappointed to inform that the front display of the player is not protected from possible scratches, as it is an open case, the quality of the case appears to be good, only had it for a few weeks as some reviews say the stitching unravels through use.
Can’t really comment on the battery life as I keep it fully charged but I doubt if it is as long as they claim it to be, you will need your own wall plug or if you are not in a hurry a computer, to charge this mp3 player.
Although disappointed with the Bluetooth feature, the shuffle function and the automatic hold situation - the sound quality, to me, is worth the sacrifice / inconvenience. It’s like everything else in life, once you purchase something, the grass always appears to be greener on the other side – however I’ll never know as I’m keeping this, happy listening!!
