I was looking for a Yoga book that had a lot of photos of Yoga positions. This book is great with photos of at least 100 positions. The instructions are a bit long winded but I have done yoga before so didn't really need the instructions. Only thing I would criticise is the weight of the book, it's quite heavy so not suitable to take away travelling.
While this book is quite informative, it is also pretty boring - I personally felt no excitement in it and no passion for yoga comes across. Also I was a bit dismayed to realise it is clearly a self-published book; while that in itself is certainly not an issue, unfortunately it is not great quality, the photos are terrible - small, grainy black and white pictures so not very clear to check finer details of the asanas. The author clearly knows her stuff but this book is not very inspiring and there are much better 'bibles' of yoga poses on the market. Also, I was disappointed that only the English / Western titles of poses is used. As most yoga teachers use the Sanskrit names in classes it would have been better to include them.
Last summer during my vacations, I have got a partial tear in my patellar tendon by badly falling on the floor which turned out in a long term procedure with GP and physiotherapist. After finishing my physiotherapy sessions recently, I was thinking about yoga exercises for strengthening my muscles. I have searched quite a lot about yoga exercises that I could easily do and to remember it all the time. But at times, it would easily slip out of my mind and then I had to search again for those exercises. So finally I found this amazing book of Susan about 100 Best Yoga Poses including Stress Relieve, Increase Flexibility, and to Strength muscles or gain some body strength. I have found stepwise instructions about yoga and its different types very beneficial such as Hatha Yoga, Vinyasa, Power, Ashtanga, Bikram, and Iyengar yoga. The good description has helped me in purging the body from toxins, sharpened my mind, relaxed my mind and strengthened my knee muscles specifically such as the big toe and extended a hand to the big toe posture. I have discovered this book very encouraging as it has the in-depth detail about the benefits of yoga. The great advantage I have found it that now with the help of this book, I can perform yoga easily at home for my different body parts. This book works as a mentor for me so I do not need to go to any yoga specialists, so I would recommend it to everyone for today’s busy life.
This is not the book I was expecting. It looks as if it was not even edited properly. Lots of white space and no obvious headers to grab your eye as you flip through it which is the ONLY way to look for anything you are after as there also appears to be no index!!! Unless you plan on reading the book start to finish, this is not a great book for study reference. I bought this as the sneak peak showed me there were "chapters" on creating your own routines and cool downs - they were merely a page long each with a few generic paragraphs; hardly informative. If you are currently training as a YT as I am, don't bother with this one.
I found the layout of the book was poor and what were purportedly beginners poses were shown with somebody very flexible doing the posture. There are a lot of exagerated claims which are purportedly verified in studies but no references to the source of those studies. Pictures were not detailed, and modifications were not provided unless you were pregant. It looks like the book was written with a narrow audience in mind. I have purchased many yoga books and this one disappoints me.
