The original The Crimson Idol, is a masterpiece. The story is vague, symbolic, and powerful. I bought this primarily for the DVD, which I originally thought would be amazing, to see the visuals for such a powerful Metal Drama... but the amateurish cuts of random, sometimes relevant images, doesnt help, but hinders the absorption of the story. Its distracting, it doesnt even come CLOSE to what your imagination has most likely already built in your mind... and its very simple and literal in its execution.
To make things worse... they changed the lyrics. The thought of Chainsaw Charlie censoring himself is LAUGHABLE, he symbolizes the evil of the record companies, the business side of fame. He's pure evil and corruption. But now he cant even curse. They added The Story of Jonathon, that is clumsily woven into the album. Its really bad. It feels like something someone could have easily done with an editing software, just adding parts of Jonathon's story, after or in the middle of other songs... its bad.
In short, your left with a disappointing DVD that I wouldnt watch myself, or show people who havent listened to the original... and the music on the track is censored and neutered, so I wouldnt listen to that either.
I would recommend the original release of this album if you can find it . There are a few new songs on this version but the lyrics on "Chain Saw Charlie" have been changed to make them politically correct. I have the 1992 version of this album and bought this to see what the video would be like and it is not worth it just for that.
As someone who loved this when it was originally released I was excited to get the re-issue with the film footage, extra songs, etc. Unfortunately the movie footage is the same few scenes just repeated over and over in different order, the extra songs are all forgettable other than "the peace" which is still not all that great. And, oh yeah, Blackie re-recorded the whole thing. Which may not have been a bad thing since his voice has held up rather well. But the problem is, imho, that due to his new religious outlook he eliminated the swearing on songs like Chainsaw Charlie. Also gone is the gay slur on that song, which is not a bad thing, but oddly enough he left on the use of the N word on " I am one" So basically all the extras, alterations add nothing to the original project and I think I will just listen to the original if I feel like revisiting the Crimson Idol.
A non-angry cd. Far inferior to the original release. 25 years later and the production quality is horrible. The Crimson Idol is the greatest concept album of all time and Re-Idolized is an insult to the original and the fans. Replacing profanity with a bunch of PC/ Family friendly BS is disgusting. The is an attempt to make $$$ and being a W.A.S.P. fan since 1984 I fell for it. Buy the original and avoid this POS. I have had this for almost a year and was so traumatized by the CDs I didn't watch the movie until now. The movie is horrible. Looks like pieced together crap from the net. Shameful POS.
Terrible waste of money. Nowhere near the product I expected. Video (bluray/DVD) was crap quality. Looks like it was shot by a 3 year old. Repetitious scenes shown repeatedly. The actual album was cut between 2 cds.
