We purchased two of these and two others (WoW Watersports orange saddle floats), and after our trip to the lake yesterday, I've ordered two more of these. The O'Brien floats are not only thicker, but seem to be way more durable and overall more superior. I floated comfortably, at just above shoulder depth, behind our boat for hours. I'm a big guy (6'3"-270) and was pleased that it held me at that level. These things are great (so far) and we look forward to using them all summer.
I’m a very heavy person (over 300lb) and finding a float where I can sit comfortably in the water and not sink is an incredible challenge. This one fits the bill perfectly! Easy and comfortable to sit on, and keeps my head and shoulders well above the waterline. Even with a 100lb kid hanging onto my back, I still floated high! Looks like it’s going to hold up well, too-definitely not flimsy foam like the cheap pool noodles. A little pricey but worth it-I’ve spent so much money on things that ultimately didn’t work well for me, I wish I had found this sooner. Thanks O’Brien for making something that actually works for plus size people, and doesn’t make us look or feel totally ridiculous trying to stay afloat!
O'Brien Foam Water Saddle, X-Large - I looked at all the water saddles available on Amazon and noticed that there were a lot of complaints about the buoyancy of the product. Many complaints were that the water saddle would not keep an average 170 lb man afloat. I ordered the X-Large saddle and there's plenty of buoyancy for a 190 lb man. I also thought the neck of the saddle would be flimsy and eventually tear off, but that's not the case. It's a well-built saddle and I use it nearly every day, with no signs of wearing or tearing. Due to the texture of the saddle, you'll need to wear a swimsuit with a crotch in it, otherwise, it may rub your skin and become uncomfortable to use. Five Stars.
I love this, I'm about 250 lbs and it hold me up with my shoulders out of the water, It appears well made. It is flexible in the water but stiff enough to be used as a flutter board too. I find it very comfortable. I'm super happy with it.
I am a 5'2" 120 lb female. I was somewhat disappointed in the comfort of this float. I bought this because it looks sturdier than others on the market. That was the problem. It is so thick and rigid that it was uncomfortable on my bare legs. There was no give. It did do a great job of holding me up in the water, actually higher than the 2 others I tried. Perhaps on a male who has swim trunks on the discomfort would not be an issue. I bought this for my husband, and the smaller on for me; the smaller one was even more uncomfortable.
Product returned. Beware of the sandpaper-like rough seams where the three ply floatation material is glued together. It causes great discomfort on the inner thigh when using the product as it is designed (to sit on in the water.
I didn’t realize how big these are- comes up to my hip and they don’t work as well as the floaty pants. You need to think about balancing on them. I bought for our boat and lake trip - but I’m definitely going back to the floaty pants. I thought they would be the same floating sensation and they weren’t as dorky as the diaper look. But when your in the lake you can’t sew them anyways. Maybe best for a pool because it can almost double as a backboard. But does not beat the floaty pants or a similar design.
Wow!! I couldn't be happier with this product! I ordered the XL Saddle to use while boating. I wasn't sure what to expect since the reviews were a mixed bag. This is one of the best purchases I've made. The seat is large enough to sit on and the saddle holds me up with my shoulders out of the water. It's sturdy and well made. Some reviewers wrote the leg openings weren't comfortable, I have not experienced any discomfort. I'm a big girl and it's easy to maneuver while in water too deep to stand. I can even lay on my back on the saddle! My husband is a big guy and he too loves it. Overton's currently has the same Saddle for $5 less than Amazon, it takes longer to receive the product from Overton's and for convenience I'm ordering again from Amazon.
