To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.
I got one of these for a Christmas gift for my cat-obsessed son and he LOVED it...until it stopped holding a charge and ultimately died for good a few months later. It was super cute and he was really sad when it stopped working.. Now I am in search of a new kitty light.
We charged it when we received it and my 11 year old daughter loved it. The next time we went to charge it, the charger cable would not insert. The receiving end got bent. She is in no way a forceful child and I believe this to be a very faulty design. A similar thing happened with a similar product I got for another daughter and it was unusable after about one month. I should have learned my lesson - next time I will only get products that charge in an outlet.
There are several variants of this sort of cute squishy cat light floating around Amazon. I’m sure my toddler will lose her mind over this, and it’ll do the job. But I specifically bought THIS one because it had the remote. Fine grained control! Extra options! Uh, nope. First of all, the remote didn’t work with the battery it shipped with, which I saw happen in other reviews, so I bought a boatload of CR2025 batteries to replace it (yay Amazon bulk purchases). Popped a fresh battery in and… nothing. Turned the unit on with the button on the bottom, like several have complained about re: the remote. Cat glows, switches to the color cycle with a bop, and back off with one more, but the remote is entire dead.
But really, how is this remote supposed to work at all in the first place. Look at the front of the unit and you’ll see an infrared bulb, like you may see on an older TV remote. How exactly does an infrared remote communicate with an opaque (or very nearly) plastic cat? Everything I’ve ever controlled with IR blasting has had a visible sensor. This cat has nothing of the sort.
Maybe I’m wrong, and don’t understand IR remotes. Maybe someone can post a video of theirs working and staying on a color, switching to different color shift modes (strobe, breathing, etc). Show me that mine is just defective. Until that point, you, dear reader, can buy this or any version of it without a remote, because they are the same thing.
UPDATE: after the seller asked me to contact them with my info, they never responded. Then, randomly, about a month later, a new remote arrived, straight from China. After trying with the shipped battery, and then a new one, my verdict remains the same. If the remote works for some, that seems to be the edge case. Don’t waste your time (see other reviews with working remotes: you still have to press the power button to get things to work). I’ve already taken this out of my daughter’s room because she was just playing with the tapping color change.
Battery lasted less than an hour on full charge, while lamp was on lowest. All instructions are in (I believe) Japanese or Chinese. Wish I still had the instructions and packing material so I could return.
It literally turns off every 5 minutes it's really really annoying that it turns off by itself it's not even the battery, i can change it all night and it would still do the same , i honestly feel scammed
