As an Ottolenghi fan, I am a bit disappointed with this book. The recipes remind me of diner confections heaped with thick sugary frostings and thick graham cracker crusts, many of the recipes excessively sweet and sticky. As well, ingredients are somewhat difficult to find: kaffir lime leaf, date syrup, rose petals, halvah, cape gooseberries. The flavors tend to be geared towards adults, which is fine, but as a result, many recipes would not be ideal for a family holiday occasion but more for a dinner party. You need to be prepared for a time commitment as well, for example, " make the candied rose petals," make the cake," "make the rose cream," make the rose syrup." Take a nap? And some recipes, re-workings of old desserts seem a little unappealing, e.g. a fruit cake with a list of ingredients to require a new cupboard. Take a look at the index before buying.
Oh Yotam, what a deception!! I cook so much from all your other books and love eating at your place but here you went overboard for the sake of selling a new book. I cannot find one single recipe that calls for me, not one! And the proof is that you don’t sell any of the desserts in this book at your shops. What a let down!
