Today is the world of new businesses and new emerging talents and entrepreneurs are rising. Everyone has this hidden wish to have their own business and to be their own boss rather than to be under the pressure of someone else all the time. I and my husband are also among those people who have kept great ideas in their mind but need a push for the implementation. We have finally decided to take a step towards our new idea about our own business for which we were looking for some useful book and found this book most friendly with amazing tips and tricks. This book has helped us to make smart plans and discover what we are getting into rather than walking into the jungle blindly. I have got the insatiable and creative mind from the very beginning but I wasn’t confident about it so the habits of the startup entrepreneur section have really helped me in finding my qualities. It has benefited us to know that some most notable sales ventures need more competitive experience and increased our knowledge of how we can gain more profit in such scenarios. The different types of businesses with requirements for each has clarified more about our business type and needs as well assisted us for becoming full autonomy at work. Chapter 3 has helped us in understanding the organisational structure and the setting of goals and deadlines This book has helped us like a mentor which has taught about the naming for our business, marketing and branding strategy, customer service the very important aspect, financial planning and many more.
Startup by Susan Hollister Startup is another success story for this author. She covers such detail in a way that you can find what you need and understand it instantly. I read this book to find out about the best way to get a business noticed but learned such a lot more. The fact that you need to be aware that you might need a lawyer, that you should be aware of copyright and patents. She covers where the business should be located and points out the value of research before starting. I would never have considered brainstorming ideas before setting out but it is a really good strategy as well as thinking forward to adding to your workforce and building a team as the business grows. Another triumph for Ms Hollister.
Very descriptive and created with a clear format that is split into different sections where each concept is explained in the detail. I liked the way this book guides through the start to the very end of planning startup.
If you have a business or are thinking of starting your own business, big or small, this book is a must. It gives you all you need to know about staring up the business and keeping it going. The first chapter starts you out with giving you the traits of an entrepreneur and allows you to see if you have the right “stuff” to start a business. The next chapter shows you how to brainstorm ideas and how to use them effectively in getting your business started in any conceivable business type. I found the list of things you need to start a business very helpful. The book gives practical advice and steps on bringing the ideas you have into reality by discussing resources, how to choose allies, mentoring, using lawyers and accountants to the fullest measure, and utilizing banking services just to mention a few. It also explains legal structure of business and what is sole-proprietorship all the way up to creating corporations. The book explains, very well, how to create a business plan that will work for you and then shows you how to use the best name for your company that reflects all the company does. It shows you how to consider domain names and using keywords to maximize your business and how to get the new business promoted so everyone notices it. The book discusses branding and marketing and gives you the challenges and benefits and even tells you how to develop a marketing budget and how to keep it in place. I especially appreciated the part about email and social media marketing. I think one of the most beneficial chapters is how to build a team within your company because it is imperative that everyone work together in a startup business. It details all those pesky anagrams and explains what each one is and what the duties are (ex: CEO, CFO, etc). The book also tells you what to look for in filling those positions. It gives you strategies on having great customer service and explains any type of legal situation your company may be thrust into giving good ideas on how to solve them. There is so much anyone starting a business can use and it is easy to read and understand.
I'm very glad I read Start Up.. It demystifies the process of starting up a new business without overwhelming one with the technical details. At the same time it gave me enough detail that I feel more confident that I am indeed capable of launching new business an making a success of it.
This book takes a multi-faceted, complex activity and breaks it down into manageable chunks. Where needed, it provides step-by-step instructions. I very much appreciated the explanations showing the WHY behind many of the steps. It covers many details that might otherwise be overlooked in a rush to get a business up and running. Aspects of selecting a physical location, for example, included an example where the history behind a specific building marked it for certain failure, regardless of the business it housed.
I especially appreciated the chapter on writing a business plan. It's well organized and complex enough that I felt I knew enough to at least draft my initial document. It also stimulated me to check out the author's stand-alone book where the business plan is discussed in even greater detail. All in all, I'd give it two thumbs up for content as well as readability.
How many times have you had a great idea to start a new business, but did not pursue it any further? I have many times. For me it is not knowing where to start and also worrying about setting up a startup correctly. This book taught me to identify exactly what type of service or product that I want to provide as well as to figure out whether my idea is a good one (or do I need to go back to the drawing board). This book provides step-by-step directions on how to set up your startup as well as the importance of creating a business plan. I also learned things to consider when naming my new business. I never knew there were so many things to think about when creating a startup business. I believe this book will guide me to making my startup a reality.
If you are thinking about starting a business or just started one, Startup is a great guide for you. You begin with the feasibility of your business to organizing the structure of your company to financial planning and funding your business. As a business owner, I have certainly learned a lot! I learned about client profiles, creating them and then marketing to them and how building a great customer service team is key. Learning that "customer service is a two-way street" was an eye opener. And, this book will help you write your business plan! That is so important!
Susan Hollister really thought about the importance of the start up discussion. The book is well written, very informative and a very interesting read. I highlighted so many passages so that I could re-read them.
Starting a new business is scary. The thought of success always lingers in the back of your head when making any decision. With this book, Susan puts your mind at ease and walks you through every process associated with a new business. The entire start up process is written out in full detail. Every possible hurdle is discussed and Susan helps you brainstorm on how to get the best success out of your business endeavor. Theres a lot of great tips in this book. I think one of the most important things discussed in this book is the customer experience. Hiring a great team is critical for this, and Susan highlights how to pick the right people to represent you. Definitely worth the read!
