2.0 out of 5 starsPurpose of the pomegranate?
Reviewed in Australia on 1 October 2018
The packaging says the product “contains pomegranate & mango extracts” but doesn’t appear to make any claims about the benefits of these extracts. Therefore I’m skeptical that they will have any noticeable effect on my skin.
Below I have listed the ingredients and a bit of general info on each one. Some ingredients have multiple functions, so the function I’ve listed might not be the reason why the ingredient was used in this specific product. For example, cocamidopropyl betaine is a cleansing agent but can also be used as a foam booster.
Water
Sodium Laureth Sulfate: detergent, cleans skin
Cocamidopropyl Betaine: detergent, cleans skin, also has a number of other functions
Phenoxyethanol: preservative
Xanthan Gum: thickener produced by bacteria
Fragrance: one or more undisclosed chemicals that have a smell
Sodium Salicylate: preservative, also has other functions
Hydroxyethylcellulose: gelling and thickening agent
Tetrasodium EDTA: chelating agent
Citric Acid: changes the acidity of the product, found in citrus fruits
Paraffinum Liquidum: mineral oil, derived from petroleum
Benzophenone-4: helps prevent product deterioration due to UV light
Gelatin: thickening agent derived from animals (bones, skin etc)
Mangifera Indica Extract: mango extract
Punica Granatum Extract: pomegranate extract
Mica: mineral, often used for colour/shimmer
Bladderwrack (Fucus Vesiculosus): type of seaweed, antioxidant
CI 17200: synthetic red dye (Red 33)
CI 19140: synthetic yellow dye (Tartrazine)
C177891: naturally occurring white pigment (titanium dioxide)
CI 42090: synthetic blue dye (Blue 1)
I deducted one star due to the inclusion of unnecessary synthetic dyes, one star due to the lack of transparency regarding the fragrance ingredient/s, and one star due to the lack of clarity regarding the "pomegranate and mango extracts" and "moisture beads".
