Tried it in both US and Switzerland. The download speed was over 100 Mbps with my regular T mobile line. The download and the upload data rates with Swiss operator Sunrise are around 50 Mbps both. Very satisfied with the stability of the connection. With moderate mixed use of texting, uploading/downloading photos and web surfing; the battery lasts a bit more than 4 hours. Be aware that this unit does not support the band 20 (the 800 MHz low frequency hence the long range) for Swiss LTE, but supports the other two high-frequency LTE bands (3 and 7). This might be a reason for lower data rates in Swiss than the ones in US. However, I did not observe a single glitch in my car even when passing through Swiss motorway tunnels.
i do really love this device. uses regular sim card from my tmobile unlimited data plan, and is SOOOOO much faster than using phone hotspot. not even close. the only weak point of this device is the janky sim card holder. not easy to find the little sweet spot for it to rest in sim holder. not intuitive as to where that sweet spot is, and if you drop the device SIM will get displaced and you have to gently find that sweet spot again. Other than the awful SIM card holder, this device is 5 stars. i took off a star for sim card holder jankiness though.
IF you can get past the HORRIBLE setup with no instructions, you will love this! Backstory: We got a camper and have dogs so I wanted to be able to set up a security camera inside to see them if we were out walking trails or something. So I got a prepaid AT&T 10 gb hotspot plan for $50 so I can cancel anytime (don't try to set this up yourself because you have to call for a hotspot plan as they aren't listed on the website for some reason. I originally set up a phone plan online and I was informed it wasn't the right plan for a hotspot device, so I had to talk to them several times which took about 5 hours or so to get figured out and corrected. So if you go through them, save yourself the time and trouble and just call to get it started). They sent me the SIM card. I inserted it, followed what little instructions there were in english. NOTHING. Couldn't get the "website" to come up. Just kept getting errors. Called customer support with Amazon and they had to contact Huawei because they couldn't figure it out either. Finally got somebody on the line (3 way call through amazon) and he was able to help. I spent hours of frustrating time trying to get this to work. Now that it's working, it works great though! I have AT&T prepaid phone service as well and when my phone won't get internet, I connect to the hotspot and it works great! Definitely better service through the hotspot than my phone. Just know there are customer service options when you can't figure this out. Call support and they will help you! Password and login at the beginning are admin/admin. The WIFI password is under the battery on the device (it will still work if plugged in and the battery is taken out). Hope that helps!
I put an AT&T SIM in this. Got password set. App intended for product showed signal coming in but went trying to connect a device it said connected but no internet. I am tech savvy and tried everything. Called manufacturer USA location and was told they have no information for it. Referred me to a different place, called the number and got a recording first in what I'm guessing was Chinese, then English telling me that number was no good. I would NOT recommend this product to anyone. Also please note there was a plethora of posts online of people having issues. I should have done my research prior to purchase, but to my own fault didn't. Summary: bad product with no tech support available that I could find.
I bought this for use while on vacation in Aruba. I bought a data card upon arrival at the airport -- then the fun began... setting it up. The documentation for this unit is terrible. No mention anywhere where the real password is located and it's critical to using it. Once I figured out what it was, I was good to go and it worked, for a while. As others before me have complained, the battery life is next to none which renders the unit useless after an hour or so. Having to charge it constantly defeats the purpose of having mobile wifi, doesn't it? I give it two stars because of this.
Works great and easy to use. Just insert a SIM card and turn it on. WiFi password is on the inside. Used it for three weeks in France. Picked up a SIM card at the airport and I was working. Battery life could be better but I carry a battery for charging me cellphone, just left the hot spot connected to the battery and put both in my back pack.
