I didn't play it yet but I know what I'm getting myself into. This is a Visual Novel which is mostly reading like reading a book but with visual and soundtrack. I didn't expect the standard edition to include the extra episodes Linear Bounded Phenogram (supposedly 30+ hours long) as I thought it was a bonus from the day 1 edition. Very happy about that?
Considering I got the 30+ hours (supposedly) of bonus content and with taxes paid 40$, it already cost me less than other Visual Novel games, such as Steins;Gate 0 or Utawarerumono. Very satisfied with the price and can't wait to play it!
I'm just getting into Visual Novels (henceforth referred to as VN) as a genre and I think steins; Gate Elite is an ideal entry point. Since it uses the animation from the anime adaptation of the original game it often fefeels like you're just watching a subtitled anime rather than reading a VN. Also the writing and the characters are really well done. The game is funny when it wants to be, touching when it wants to be and downright disturbing when it wants to be. Additionally, I'd like to add that Ihave degrees in both applied mathematics and applied physics and, while the scifi plot will break down under scrutiny, it "feels" very plausible and well researched if you don't think too hard about it and allow yourself to enjoy it. If you're a fan of VNs then you've probably already read/played this game but if you're new to the genre and want to see what interactive media can do with the classic "choose your own adventure" book concept (make no mistake, that's essentially what this is) then you can't do much better than Stein's; Gate Elite. Finally, once you're done you can download a free copy of the companion title "Linear Bounded Phenogram" that offers an additional 30 hours of VN in the art style of the original game to help you cross from a fully animated experience into a more traditional VN using the characters you've already come to know and love eating your transition into the genre as a whole. It's quite a value proposition for the $25 or so that the game is going for at the time of this writing.
A huge must own for any Steins;Gate fan. This visual novel also combines scenes from the anime making it much less static than the original. I wish they would port it to the PS Vita, but I'm glad it also made it to the Nintendo Switch.
Steins;Gate is one of my top favorite animes. I watched the anime before playing the visual novel, but that didn't necessarily take away from the experience. I found there was a lot more content covered in the visual novel it was especially interesting to explore more depth in the characters and alternate endings. The fully animated scenes and voice actors from the anime made the experience great, the game has tons of hours of reading and making your way through the different endings. It's one I recommend for those that want an interesting story to read along to with nice visualized scenery.
