I have owned 3 versions of this light, from the 1.0, to the original 2.0 and now the new 2.0. This is my 5th Tool from Lumintop. There is a major problem with the new version:
I use my light as an everyday carry light (in my pocket all the time) as well as at work in a professional setting. I use 14500 cells because that gives this light the best performance. The new lights have a blue LED in the tailcap which ALWAYS (literally, you can't turn it off) emits a blue light from the tailcap and is constantly draining battery!!!! WHAT?!!! Who thought that was a good idea?! Want to walk around in the dark and not have a blue light emitting from your body? Too bad. Want to put your light in a glovebox and be able to open it up and know your light is still fully charged ans hasn't been draining battery for months powering a blue light in your glovebox? too bad. Want to work in a professional setting and not have a blue light emitting from your body? Too bad. The new tailcap always is flatter and more recessed which makes it harder to toggle on while wearing gloves and its smoother, giving it less texture. It also doesn't have the instant on feature of previous tailcap. A major step in the wrong direction for an otherwise great light which needed no modification other than a stronger sturdier pocket clip. At least provide the original non-emitting non-draining tailcap, or offer this one as a seperate edition/model.
Otherwise this is a great light. Cheap. Fairly rugged given the price. My oldest one which has been dropped countless times and used as a prybar and occasionally flickers. They are bright. Wide beam, white beam. Light and small. Memory function.
Edit: Bought a second light in January, 2021. The warranty request that I have made are now ignored. At first they were responsive and gave me instructions, but they didn't not work and have ignored ALL my efforts to rectify the problem. After 6 or 7 times that I have emailed them, I have decided that they are not going to honor the warranty. Don't be fooled. They will not honor any part of the warranty and their customer service is a joke.
every day carry light I have ever had! I love this little light. I never knew how much I would use a light if it were with me all the time until I got one of these. I started out my search with the Maglite mini mag AA lights over 30 years ago in my pursuit of a small light with enough brightness and enough battery life to be worth the trouble of its weight and size in the confines of my pocket. Though I'm no longer working I think I can say that this Lumintop is the end of the journey for my needs of an edc light! You can pay more, a LOT more, for a better known name in lights but why? I've got lights that cost several times as much but do not offer any more than this one. Now days if I have a pocket, then I have my Lumintop.
UPDATE 12/9/19 - Since I liked this little light so much, I decided to order another one in white. While it's just as bright as the other (black) ones I have, the finish on the white is VERY abrasive and will scratch anything that is in your pocket with it (like a brand new, $50 pocket knife).
All I can say is wow! For its size, this little bugger puts out a TON of light! It's super lightweight (1.5oz) and basically disappears in your pocket. Cycling through the different levels is easy and the memory is nice. I love that the strobe feature isn't included in the cycle, as it's not something I ever use, so that's a plus. Output with a regular AA is good, but you really need to drop in a 14500 to see this thing shine (pardon the pun).
Two things I'm not crazy about with this light. 1) It gets VERY hot if used in turbo mode for an extended period and 2) the low setting (when using a 14500 battery) is too bright. It would be nice if it was 1-2 lumens, rather than 16.
All in all, this light is bright enough to work for me in virtually any situation and small enough that I can toss it in my pocket and forget it's there.
Very rarely do I find I light that I don’t like, but this one certainly fits the bill. I loved the size and the brightness, but after just 2 weeks of using the light, the tail cap switch gets stuck and won’t operate the light, or it comes on, and won’t cut back off. I wanted to like it, but needing a dependable light for work is not optional. Not being familiar with this brand, I purchased this one based off the reviews and the price, but it turned out to be a huge disappointment.
How did this get such good reviews I wonder?!? The interface is terrible. You have to click forever to get strobe but that's a good thing. Who needs a strobe? However, when I am trying to select the desired brightness the strobe activates, which's annoying.
The main complaint is that the flashlight turns off and resets. I've tried AAs, lithiums, and 14500s with the same result. The torch turns off for no apparent reason with no set time.
I can't trust this light and I now know why it's so cheap because it is so cheap. It's a shame because subjectively it's a very handsome torch!
I would never recommend this light when there are so many that are much better in the price range. Buy cheap and get cheap, it be the guy that received a free torch to do a positive review.
Feels less useful and cheaper than a flashlight they would hand out for free at Harbor Freight. The brightness was atrociously dim; when I first turned it on, I thought it was on the lowest setting... then it only got more dim. I even specifically ordered the 14505 batteries to have a higher voltage/brightness. Additionally, the controls don’t make any sense. I was looking for a light that would activate temporarily with a half depression of the button for EDC purposes. Every documentation I could find on this light said this was the case. Not so. It only activates with a full depression of the button, then DEactivates when half pressed. Then, to make things worse, if you miss the brightness you want and cycle through the options again, this is enough to activate the strobe. If THIS wasn’t bad enough, the strobe just stays on for a few seconds, then the light shuts off altogether!
I rarely leave reviews for products. When I do, it’s to encourage purchase of a product I truly believe in... or warn to stay away from one that will ONLY be a waste of money. Don’t waste your money on this one.
The tail cap is always on! There is an annoying blue light that can't be turned off! My battery needs recharge weekly even if not used because of it. Who ever had the dumb Idea to do this need to be fired for real! It's like leaving your car on in your garage all weekend, and expecting to have gas to drive to work on Monday morning! Do not buy this flashlight! I gave mine to my 59 y/o mom with poor eyesight, she keeps her on her nightstand and loves the fact that she can easily find it at night because of the blue light. But dont risk taking this light camping, or as an emergency flashlight in your car because you are doomed.
I do like the light but with only using it a few times in the last few months, the light no longer works. Pretty sure the LED went out. Don’t even know how to contact seller for a replacement and judging by other reviews, it will cost more to fix it than to just buy a new one.... customer service needs to fix this issue and just send a replacement with prepaid postage so I can return the broken one.
Revised review. I have purchased 3 of these lights for EDC for my wife, myself and one for my son that works in rescue. Two out of the three discharge the battery within a couple of days while sitting idle. Not very reliable for security/safety. I can not recommend this light any longer .
My wife keeps it clipped to her purse strap.I keep one on my desk. Awesome little light, quality construction.
With new Kirkland AA alkaline battery: Brightness are the same at Turbo - High - Medium. At Low mode is dimmer. With full charge 14500 battery: Brighter, but Brightness are the same at Turbo - High - Medium. At Low mode is dimmer. Look and feel: Ugly, button is hard to press at full click, need to press very deep and hard. Too sensitive at half press, just a touch will change mode unintentionally. Strobe need to count 6 times and must be consistently fast half press, or it will do nothing except changing the modes. Not worth buying. Return immediately.
