It's okay. There are some nice recipes just not enough easy stand-alone midweek meals for summer. Too many meals require the oven which is not good when its 30c+. Also there are too many salads which are too small as a single meal but there is no help on which salad pairs with which or with what main. I'd also prefer more recipes for a family dinner and less pages of lifestyle chat!
So happy to have another Hetty McKinnon book to add to the collection. Having discovered Neighbourhood whilst in Australia and since buying Community, not a week has gone by when we don’t create one of her delicious recipes. Very excited to get stuck into Family and our first dish was divine.
Umm. Was excited to order it after seeing the older book of salad recipes but not what I expected. Half of it has just photos of random people, not sure this concept is for me. Just want a practical cookbook of delicious veg recipes for non vegetarians.
Sometime I will buy cookbooks, be impressed with all the dishes but never actually make anything because they are too much effort/money to make, have hard to find ingredients or require kitchen tools that I don't have.
This book is NOT one of those book. I immediately made about 5 recipes from the book within a couple weeks after I got it.
I recommend you try the sweet and sour cauliflower recipe (I modify it a bit to turn it into a hot noodle dish instead of a salad).
This book is awesome. As a non-vegetarian I have actually started eating less meat for the sole reason that I want to use more recipes from Hetty’s book. I’ve already bought copies for friends, which is my highest endorsement.
