5.0 out of 5 starsCMR drive
Reviewed in Australia on 25 July 2020
Ordered it because the price/TB seemed to be the most attractive in the RED range at the 10TB mark. And also once I used 2 of these in RAID1 in a Synology NAS (DS918+), the useable volume capacity in BTRFS format is closer to 9TB anyway. Also a great choice because the drive uses CMR technology, rather than SMR, which Western Digital uses on drives 6TB (4TB?) or lower.
Very happy with the choice, so far so good. Glad I dodged the SMR bullet!
N.B./Public service message: the CMR/SMR was a public relations disaster for Western Digital this year - they have now addressed this by clarifying the technology clearly within the RED line. If you are a home user like I am am, and you are buying drives for NAS use, make sure its a CMR drive (WD101EFAX is a CMR drive).
