I bought this to use in a feral cat enclosure so that I'd know if a cat (or some woodland creature) was entering and could better supervise the situation. Put this up initially pointing toward the entrance, affixed to a post about a foot away, and found that the chime would just continually sound every 1-2 minutes. Removed from post, placed inside the entrance to the enclosure, facing toward the door. Got the same interval of false alarms. Gave it one final go by attaching it to the ceiling of the enclosure, facing down to the empty floor, thinking maybe it was just picking up motion from outside somehow. Still got the chiming every 2-3 minutes with zero activity in or around the enclosure. Repeated attempts two and three with the other sensor that comes with the set, just to see if it was a bad sensor, but got the nearly the exact same results of chiming into the void. Really disappointed, as I have a similar set I use for my back porch that works perfectly but Amazon no longer sells it and the algorithm suggested this one. Sending back and the search continues.
The good: pop the batteries in, attach the mounting screws and pop the device onto the mount. Connects easily to the base, from pretty far away. Quite sensitive and accurate. Light on base is good and strong. Batteries last a long time (5 months so far!)
The bad: the instructions are terrible
The ugly: the tones available are just bad. Choosing them is even worse. Maybe it's possibly, but I don't think so... there should be a way to tell the device which tone to play for which sensor. We basically turned the audio off; the light on the base is strong and very visible, so it works for us.
They aren't weatherproof, not really. The instructions say to mount where they won't get wet. I've got one of my sensors mounted under the overhang on an outbuilding. It's been 5 months and it still works great. I figure eventually the rain and wind will do it in. It would be easy enough to build a cover with a plastic jar, so I might go that route. The other sensor is mounted to tell me when my puppy goes in or out of the dog door.
The outside sensors light up, but the inside alarm doesn't work. I bought one in November that stopped working. I had a power surge, so I thought that was why. This new one worked 3 days, then stopped. Not buying again.
We had a 1byOne that we bought from Amazon 5 years ago. It worked great up until a few days ago. This WJLING Motion Sensor works great if your intended use is indoors. Outside in a partially sun lit walk way it would not detect any movement unless you put your hand 1-2" away from the sensor. We tried changing batteries to no benefit. I don't recommend this for outdoor use. Also of note, the sensor itself was placed under an eve not in any direct sunlight.
i went in from the the motion and it chimed and then stop i stood about ft away sliding my arms back and forth and the chime did not go off again, my walk way is 22 ft long and i want it to chime several times not once and stop,, in case i missed it the first time.... two montions that cannot be programed with two different sounds is not much use unless your only covering one area
