To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.
I purchased my Yammy CX-A5200 through Amazon. I am using it to replace my Yamaha CX-A5100 which I gave to my son. I am delighted with the purchase. The AI, about which I was skeptical, adds a significant dimension to the sound fields. The sound is deeper and more vivid than the 5100. Dialogue is clearer, cleaner and more pronounced without overwhelming any musical accompaniment. I am running an ATI 3000 amp and B&W 802 Nautilus mains. Also, I use an Oppo 205. I listen to a lot of music through the Oppo and the 5200 really does it credit, improving depth, precision and stage as I hoped and expected. It is not Imax enhanced but there is not a lot of Imax enhanced offerings, so until we have the start of a library of Imax enhanced DVDs, I am not missing anything. Yamaha announced that it will provide a firmware upgrade to eARC to which I look forward--the sooner the better Yamaha. I have heard it said that the 5200 doesn't offer much more than we got from the 5100. I don't agree. Listen to these and let your ears tell the difference.
The Yamaha sound field sound processing stuff is a waste in my book, but you can easily avoid it. Setup menu system is more modern than that on the Marantz units I've owned. Sound quality is determined by attached speakers, so don't skimp on the front speakers.
Well made preamp, I love the iOS app. You can stream to it via Airplay 2, but for even better quality I hooked up my Mac Pro 2013 to it via an SKW Mini Toslink to Toslink Optical Digital Audio Cable (ASIN B07V27RJ53) and stream Amazon Music HD all the way to 24/192. Makes my Martin Logan speakers sing! Easy setup and clean intuitive menus, I recommend it.
