I already use Philips Hue indoor bulbs (mainly for automation rather than colour) plus I have a Philips Hue ’Tuar’ outdoor light which I’m quite pleased with, so adding the ‘Fuzo’ to the mix isn’t too daunting. Obviously as a Hue product you need the Hue Bridge in order to take advantage of the smart features of this light, otherwise it’ll be just an expensive outdoor light you control with a switch.
Build quality looks good with a solid black metal frame (rather that the all plastic Tuar light) and creamy white light enclosure. The backplate has 4 recesses for guiding you when fixing it to a wall and this is all easily accessed by removing two screws from the top/bottom of the metal housing. It’s really a simple as fixing the backplate to the wall, attaching the brown and blue wires to your power supply using the rubber grommet and junction block provided, locating the light assembly on the backplate then fitting the metal housing over the top and screwing it in place. Once that’s done, turn on the light and let the Hue Bridge system discover the new bulb. From there on you can control it like any other Philips Hue bulb. That means you can switch it on/off using a schedule, a motion sensor or even via the smartphone app. The light output is a nice warm white (which can be adjusted) although this unit doesn’t do multiple colours. Unlike the Tuar light I have which uses a screw-in bulb, the Fuzo uses LEDs which don’t look like they’re user replaceable. This means that if the LEDs fail for any reason then you’d need to replace the whole unit which is rather costly. I actually prefer the look of this light over the Tuar light, despite the lack of replaceable bulbs.
All in all very simple, well made and pleasing if. Tad expensive for what it is. So, if you’re staring out on to a dark garden and want to add some perspective, or fancy a welcoming warm light near your front door then I reckon the Fuzo is a pretty good choice.
This is a great designed lamp. I love Hue devices and this is a modern, smart and unique lamp. Using with IFTTT allows you to get the most from your smart lighting, turn it on when a door motion sensor is triggered for instance. They are so easy to install, so long as the wiring is already there, follow the guide, switch off the electricity supply and wire it in, no need for an electrician so long as you have some common sense. If you're already in the Hue ecosystem with a new version 2 bridge then get your outside lighting sorted too, not the cheapest of lights but they are great quality.
