This is a very nice, high-quality case for either the Sony NW-WM1A or 1Z. Fit is very good, and the appearance is great. Even for the black 1A model, adding this case makes it look even fancier than without a case, and I can only imagine what it must look like with the gold 1Z model. The plastic is semi-hard, with high reflectivity, good transparency, and it has a slightly textured inner back for the part that is against the faux-leather back of the player. The buttons are still easy to use due to the close fit of the button inlays on the case, and the wrist-strap and WM-Port are also both exactingly cut. Looks gorgeous.
One thing to remember, though. This case is great for protecting against scratches and the occasional bump, but I would not want to drop the unit and expect that this case is going to protect it against such a fall. Remember that both the 1A and the 1Z are moderately heavy, certainly heavier than a cell phone by a factor or two or more, and any drop is going to be quite an impact: this case is really not built to protect the unit in such a case. I would say that one of the leather case options might actually offer more protection for minor drops (either the Sony case or the Miter case) due to the absorption of the leather. And there is no promise that even those would fully protect the device, so you would want to go with one of the rough case protectors which will look as ugly as a mud fence but will protect the device.
Take some time to think about where you are going to be using the device. If you plan on basically leaving it at home in the same location, then this clear case may be all you need. But if you plan on dragging the unit all over the place, a glass screen protector and a heavy-duty case would be in order. I would say the leather cases are kind of a middle of the road solution for occasional transportation and if you want the absolute most dressy look.
The only reason I give this case four stars instead of five is that its a bit overpriced. The quality and the looks are there, but for what it is, it could have been, say, ten dollars less expensive, and then it would be right in the price range it should be. On the other hand, I'm glad the case even exists at all, because I've purchased Sony mp3 players for years and years where no case was even available for the majority of their units. So, here you have a choice of a few different types, none of them cheap, but then again, neither is the NW-WM1A or 1Z!
Put it on my newly bought WM1A. Case very nicely made and does not block away the beautiful Sony player. You can get it at a cheaper price from elsewhere but you'll have to wait for a couple of weeks longer to get it delivered as it will be shipped from China.
Fits perfect. Wish the dust plug for the Walkman port was a bit beefier as it could be easily lost and there was a marking on it as I have to keep looking at the plug to make sure it goes in the right position and not upside down. Kinda expensive for what it is. Maybe I should have rolled paper and put in the slots and saved some money!
Good case, but loses one star for not fully covering the front of the device, I wished it would extend to the screen and not leave a 2mm gap. Other than that, it does it's job and allows the gold chassis to be shown.
