I live in a lovely little neighborhood where there's never been a problem and the neighbors like and look out for each other. A few weeks ago, a new family moved in, bringing with them at least one juvenile thief. I happened to catch him red-handed stealing some of my stuff. I probably gave him all the deterrence he needed simply by being a crazy lady appearing out of nowhere while his hands were full of my things and scaring his tiny little wits out of him. Still, all of a sudden our sweet neighborhood is different.
A friend offered to finance and set up real security cameras for me, but while shopping on Amazon for "Smile, you're on camera" signs, I ran across these brilliant fakes. A light went on in my brain. For the type of "crime wave" we're experiencing, real cams are overkill. Signs and scary-looking faux cams should be plenty to dissuade both aimless kids and opportunistic meth-heads (the only other sort of criminal we're likely to run across in our small town).
I chose these faux cameras over all others because so many reviews praised them as completely realistic. And boy, were they right. They're also very well built, made out of quality materials, and every bit as versatile in their motion and settings as the listing claimed. I am pleased as punch with my purchase.
Now my house is festooned with real-looking cams and ominous warning signs. The junior thief has to walk past my place to catch the schoolbus several times a week, and I think between the cameras, signs, and the possibility of a scary homeowner appearing out of the blue he's as terrified as if mine were the neighborhood haunted house and ghosts and vampires were waiting for him within.
Received the newest version of this item. 1st: The packaging no longer screams “I’m a fake security camera”. There is a very small barcode label that says Fake Camera but the box is plain white with no graphics. 2nd: The red light no longer blinks. 3rd: The LED is controlled by a photo sensor. It will only come on at night with a steady red light. 4th: The red LED is crazy bright. Easily seen and draws attention to itself. Not sure I like that and will either leave the batteries out or try to dim the bulb. Took off 1 star because of this. Otherwise they look very convincing. On a lighter note; Even though the description did not promise to include them, this item came with little signs warning of video surveillance. Unfortunately the printing on the signs was in Chinese with English subtitles. Definitely not using them.
So these are okay with a few modifications. Like the light is to bright to be realistic. So I took a clear nail polish to paint over to dim it a little . Also the label of BNK is very obvious to smart thieves. I think it should be in a inconspicuous place. So I sprayed over it with a white spray paint that’s rust free. Only the top part that come off only. You can use a label or sticker or such. Also if you cut a power cord of something you no longer need and glue it with e600 glue to make it look like it’s more realistic to the eye. I would of preferred if these was made with metal that would make them more realistic. But for the price it’s not bad. Better then other products.
These are so real! I ordered more for the other side of my house. My neighbor even made comments thinking they were real!!! I said nothing haha I paired them with a Brinks security sign in my front yard and for 40 bucks I feel completely protected alone in my house. It’s our little secret that those are nothing but a red nightlight stuck up in the corner of my house!
I purchased these for my remotely located warehouse. I mounted them high up under the eaves for added protection from weather. I also added a sign saying "Smile you are on camera" If I was a thief I would look twice before stealing anything. The cameras do look real.I did put the batterys in and the red light comes on as indicated.
The red light is very bright and noticeable from a distance; almost too bright. The photocell works correctly and the red light comes on and stays on after dusk. The light is steady and does not blink. The installation is very m
The battery cover is sketchy, wind or a bird may dislodge the cover. I secured mine with a dab of silicone. There is no weather seal to protect the batteries.
First off get some real "warning - video surveillance in progress" stickers as the junky ones these come with are a sad joke but honestly these dummy cameras are really nice and really real looking. Going to buy 2 more!
