To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.
It’s a very good player (hardware wise), lots of functionality due to the Android OS version. It’s fast, no lag time and works fine with the following apps:
HiBy Music BuBleUnPn Amazon Prime Music Qobuz Spotify
Not so much for the following: Roon
Those are my main music/streaming based applications, at least the reason why I initially bought it.
The player is heavy but if you’re like me, this is a good thing, means they put the necessary build into it. The only cons are the following (at least for me):
Lack of BT connectivity with iOS devices. I still can’t connect from my iPhone or iPad to the player.
As far as MusicTeck is concerned, I decided to purchase the player from them instead of going directly to HiBy. Those folks seem to be serious in helping buyers. Truly appreciate your desire to help buyers through their purchasing experience, keep the good work!
If you’re looking for a long lasting player and that you can live with a foreign manufacturer for ultimate repairs, this has to be it. Price is not cheap but for what you paid for, it’s decent, could be cheaper.
Here are a few points that kept the rating at the current level:
. Casting in Settings does not work, at least it's not keeping the connection live so could be my unit. . Roon app works but disconnects when screen is turned off. . BT does not work at all for iOS device sending or receiving no matter how hard you try. . Last, the battery charge took me over 5 hours on the very last recharge, so it could again be my player.
Now I've heard of issues with HiBy keeping the software up to date (R6 anyone?) when the introduction period is over so something to be cautious about, let's face it 800$ for a dap is no chump change. Fiio, on the other hand, keeps their firmware up to date throughout the products life cycle (and it goes for quite a while so my hat to them), I just wish Fiio would have the developer skills that HiBy has and that HiBy would be more serious about caring for their customers instead of only looking at the bottom dollar.
Last update: Ended up returning it, I don't think the player is ready yet for prime-time and not sure if the firmware will help at all in my case since most of my problems were either related to the OS or the hardware. It's a real shame since it feels substantial and well built. Unfortunately the fact that the player is not made in the USA complicates warranty work/returns if there are any issues, YMMV.
I have tried them all and my initial impressions are that the HiBy r6 Pro outperforms players costing three times as much.
The output power is insane and the new 4.4mm connector sounds amazing.
The case doesn’t form fit so probably will want to find a case similar to the r3 case.
They even thought of protecting the micro sd card slot with a slide out sim chip style load.
Outside of the case issue the only other complaints are 1) the unit doesn’t auto shut off as far as I can tell so you have to remember to turn it off or the battery will drain. 2) it’s a really solid build but that also means don’t expect r3 like portability. Also the unit is quite hefty weight wise.
You’ll immediately notice the more muscular internal chipset with how quickly the songs process when the micro sd card is inserted. Also the scrolling is beautifully smooth and the os is very nice.
After having used the player now for a few weeks I still think it’s one of the best but I can see where they cut back vs the other high end DAPs - the radio shielding. This thing reacts poorly to any radio signals at all making it virtually unuseable while moving around with other mobile devices.
I even noticed interference from my kindle!
What I will say is if you can use this away from other active mobile devices it’s the best one I have used - but if you are intending to run around carrying this then think twice because you will get really bad interference noises from other devices that you don’t get with the AK players or even the r3.
I bought this player 6 months ago, I wasn't blown away by it's performance and sound so listened sparingly. I already owned a chord mojo with Sony xbaz6 IEMs but I wanted a dedicated player with balanced outs for my bike rides.. once again, I wasnt blown away... I've been an audiophile for a long long time; solid state amps, scanspeak 4ways, hi rez-196, Coltrane to Kanye.. My system blows away many so called high end stereos and sometimes I actually most force people to leave my apartment. .. Once more, this player didn't blow me away so I played with the settings /eq and it did get better. It got more better when I finally tried the balance outs, the sounds opened up and image increased. I enjoyed 2 days of being okay with the balanced out sound until it stop charging it's battery. Then USB c connector portion of the player began to heat up and smoke whenever I inserted the charger cable. Now my barely used $700 player has become a reverse engineering project.
I love the player but this is the second one I've had to return because something was defective the first one was a hiby r5 so it was very similar to this r6 the r5 had lines in the screen that I could not get rid of and this r6 the battery ran out and when I went to charge the battery it would not power up back on so I had it only for a couple of days before it did this I'm not saying that they are bad players I have a hiby r3 and it works perfectly so I think I just got a couple of bad ones but it was awesome using it and they are very super nice especially the unboxing is awesome and the cables that come with it are very high quality I want to give them a great review and can't the player is very high quality and it even comes with a clear rubber case the extra cable that comes with it is a rca to headphone Jack and it is for the first time using hard to get the sd card slot open I just wanted it to work and be as nice as the quality of the craftsmanship because it is a awesome player I just got some bad ones guess
