Not bad for the price. It looks pretty realistic, especially if you mount it up high where it is not too easy to tell it's a fake. Buying 2 rechargeable batteries is about another 50% more to spend to get it to work as intended, but still it's pretty cheap for the effect. We have installed 30 of these on commercial buildings and they have lasted several months now. First thing I did is use a sealant to cover all the seams on the top because otherwise I think water would get into the battery compartment (there are no gaskets or seals on them out of the box although the solar cell is glued in place which seems to function as a good seal). Also, on several of the units the battery compartments are slightly too small to fit the batteries and you really have to wedge them in there. Luckily you can tell from the light if the batteries are in correctly and making good contact, because on several of them when I put the batteries in they do not make good contact with the compartment ends and I have to manipulate them around to get the correct position. Out of 30 I have only one so far that the solar cell doesn't seem to power the led at all-very simple wiring but so haven't investigated further to figure out why it wasn't working. Overall pretty good for the price and seems to be a good deterrent. The blinking light is nice and bright at night and very noticeable (a good thing).
I use a fair number of these "fake" cameras to deter amateur hooligans. We live in rural Hawaii, where everyone has 2 to 5 acres lots, all with various amounts of foliage. We use these above mailboxes, driveway entrances, and parking areas. We have to because getting power to them is an issue. So, having a fake camera which is solar powered at least makes some people think they are Wi-Fi monitored.
This one is well made, easy to install, and seems pretty weather resistant. There are two things I would change. The dome is awfully dark, so you have to have good lighting and be right on top of it before you can see the fake camera lens behind the glass. Having the dome a little bit clearer so the lens is more visible would help. Also, the flashing light, probably the most important deterrence tool, needs to be brighter. At night, it is fairly visible but only if you are directly in line with it. Five feet to either side and the light is barely visible. In the daytime, the light flashes, but you have to be right on top of it to see it.
After having said all of that, it is a good bargain at this price and I am happy with it.
The product looks great but the battery compartment is to small and breaks very easily when you try to push the batteries in. I have two of these units, I did not install the first unit until I received the second. If you buy these units you will need to file away a good portion of the battery case to make them fit. I managed to file one unit, but the second units battery case broke, very easily. I gave one star for appearance of unit. Seller should allow returns, on this item to keep from getting a bad reputation.
It is not very rugged, so don't drop it like I did. Snapped off the LED wire at the light. Installed without the light working, which may be more realistic. At about 10 ft off the ground it looks very convincing. Ran a fake wire from the unit to under the eaves to add realism.
We live in a 80 unit 15 buildings condo. Board of directors suspected drug activity might be starting from some of the young 70 percenters that are usually incarcerated and have ruined this great country. We sent out a notice that the camera had a “tag reader” camera and directly feeds into the police data base. Big drop in Mercedes and Lexus with high tinted windows and “ brothers” with an IQ lower than Forest Gump visiting here now.
Pretty nice dummy camera put some Amazon rechargeable AA batteries and it will work for a very very long time, if you live in sunny Texas Lol. I give it only three stars because there isn’t adjustment so that the camera can be tilted from left to right, only up and down. So make sure you screw in the camera in perfectly correct position from the beginning because later you will not be able to adjust the way you want it .
Discreet and look like the real thing. The blinking red light is a plus. I used a rechargeable battery, so the solar light changed the battery. Since installing it no one come closer to my entrance door unannounced or without invitation.
It is what it is.... a great fake. I have a nest camera and my son does not care to be recorded (you can move out! lol) so when he saw this hanging from the corner of the house, he asked when did we surveillance hahaha
