I was hooked from page one. This is such an unusual story but makes you feel part of it and everything that is happening is very believable. Loved this book and have purchased the following four - cant wait to get into them.
Solid fantasy series but the books are quite short and aren't published very quickly. Otherwise, the world-building is a little lacking which can usually be offset by strong central characters but as the point of view changes often it's harder to identify with the MC. Some of the scenes from the point of view of the many "evil" characters are longer then they need to be. I found myself speedreading through many chapters told from these points of view. The MC is also a little emotionally deficient, understandable to a degree given his origin, but it still makes it harder to identify with him. In summary, I enjoyed the series but would prefer a more MC centric story.
Great read, though some sections l skipped due to the unencessity of it just as the retelling of the war. A simple page would have done it felt like we were getting too much info. Love the characters, l am worried for Thomas! Thank you.
This is the start of a series of books in which "darkness" is trying to take over the world and is being held back by a staunch army of defenders. Villians abound and evil spreads its wings as "nature" attempts to resist. This book is for mature readers who like magic and graphic battles scenes. I really enjoyed this book and found that it was hard to put it down at times. As I have read all the books of this series to date, I can thoroughly recommend this book and all those following.
I have read the first three books. In each one the author portrays all the females as smarter than the males. Stronger than the males and can twist men around their fingers any time they wish. This includes Kings, fathers, husbands and any other male. All the females use underhanded methods to manipulate all the males. Equality of the genders is a fine idea but the author has created a world where only females ever have the correct view of things. It is main theme in all three books. It gets very tiresome. The main character finds he has a type of nature magic however in 7 years of having this power barely learns anything about it. In the story his grandparents are supposedly teaching him about this power/magic. Even though the author claims the main character is so gifted in the power he is one in ten million the main character barely scratches the surface in 7 years. The story drags and drags. I finally gave up and will not be buying anything from this author again.
The story is something of a standard sword and sorcery coming of age book, but is very well written and edited. My concern is less about the content and more about how the books are released. Book 1 - 300+ pages $0.99 Book 2 - 148 pages $3.99 Book 3 - 200 pages $3.99
Books 2 and 3 could have been combined and as the series is slated to be a 9 book series it will be an expensive read for limited substance
