I really enjoyed this fast-moving Viking age adventure. So much in fact that I found myself finishing it off the day after I bought it. It has some great action, as it moves from Iceland to Orkney, then Ireland and back to Iceland again. As a big fan of James L. Nelson, and his stories of Viking age Ireland I was really excited to find Tim Hodkinson's book on Kindle and I am really looking forward to reading more about Einar's adventures in the following novels.
This saga started a little slowly for its genre but as the book progressed it became absorbing and by the end I loved it and it's hero. Give this new author time and I've no doubt he'll be up there with Hosker, Harffy, Cornwall and others who write magnificent stories of brave warriors. Look forward to the next book.
This is a very well written and researched book full of excellent characters totally engaging from start to finish. A Viking coming of age tale atmospheric authentic with a real feel and sense of time and place. All of us who enjoy this genre, look forward to some gruesome violence of sword and axe of a shield wall, and this book does not disappoint. Whilst initially a slow start action wise, the story maintains your interest throughout, and makes up for it towards the end. Totally gripping I look forward to further adventures of this merry band, right up there with Bernard Cornwells 'Uhtred ' Giles Kristians 'Raven'se
A great fan of historical and I really enjoyed this book. Glad I bought the second book. Living in Scotland and being northern irish, I could feel as if I was there, watching everything that was being described. Well worth a read.

Only very recently discovered Tim Hodkinson: what a story teller!! This Odin saga is a fantastic tale of a young Icelandic boy who has to find his way in a very violent and unforgiving world. Lovers of historical action stories will love this!!
It's the first of a series and it's certainly got me eager to read more. Great plot plenty of action and gore all along with that devil may care Viking attitude given by some great characters. Well worth a read.
I really enjoyed this tale of Iceland, the Orkneys and Ireland. Einar is an engaging hero, and his band of Norse banditos, while a violent bunch, are fun to be around. Even better is the chance to visit areas little seen in historical fiction, where Scandinavian culture survived through the Norse-Gaels well into the 12th century. Looking forward to book 2 and beyond!
