In my living room I have a moderately 'serious' (British) separate-system hi-fi set-up, for playing of vinyl and CDs, but I have been looking for something decent for my dining room, to play CDs and Bluetooth-streamed tracks from my phone during post-dinner-party 'party' time. It had to be something that was compact and aesthetically pleasing, without spending a fortune, and capable of producing a half decent sound. This Yamaha unit caught my eye because it had the kind of look that I was after - the 'hi-fi' component look (i.e. satin black! - other colours available, for the aesthetically fashionable). I read the Amazon reviews (good average star rating to start with), and saw that folk were raving about the sound quality and power. So, I went for it.
I was not disappointed. This is an astonishingly good little outfit. It has that quality hi-fi construction and feel that I wanted, and looks great. The other reviewers were right, the sound that this little thing can push out is nothing short of astonishing. Okay, it couldn't compete with my main hi-fi, but it's not meant to, it is superb for my intended purpose - to keep the party going around the dining table!
In addition to the winning sound quality, I like the design and ease of use, including the simple (white) remote control. This might seem odd, but I like that it doesn't have a CD 'eject' button on the RC. It has always amused me that you press 'eject' on the remote, and then you have to walk over to the unit to remove or change the CD (or DVD/Blu-ray); clearly, somebody in Yamaha is amused by this also! I like the simple LED display, which can be toggled for CD number & played time, remaining time, track title, album title, or track artist (particularly handy for compilation CDs) - I guess this is all dependent on the CD's data coding.
Bluetooth connection was easy and stable. All boxes ticked.
If you are hesitating, don't.
