I've been shooting with this lens for a few days now and it's hands down the finest standard zoom I've ever used. If, like I was, you're wondering whether the 24-70/2.8 S 'pro' zoom is worth the extra cost, bulk and weight over the 24-70/4 S 'kit' zoom, the answer in my opinion - unless you absolutely must have the smallest, lightest lens possible - is unquestionably yes. It's tack sharp throughout its aperture and focal length range in a way that the f/4 zoom just cannot match. It's significantly sharper wide open (particularly at the wide end) than the f4 zoom at f/8. Contrast, colour and depth rendition are all equally impressive. Adding to the lens' versatility is a very useful close range focussing capability and a simply gorgeous wide open rendering with some of the smoothest transitions I've ever seen in a zoom lens. I get the impression Nikon is making a statement of intent with this lens. They have my attention. This is simply an outstanding world class lens of exceptional quality. Highly recommended.
Over the years the cost of the fast aperture zooms has increased. These generally cover the range 24-70 and 70-200 as the most sort after F2.8 lenses. The Z mount is new and as such expect to pay a premium for glass that will last years as you develop your skills and change your Z mount body. You do get what you pay for with this lens, the quality is simply superb, it is super sharp across the range, and even wide at 24mm. The additional control rings and single function button can all be customised in the camera, further enhancing the usability of the lens. The screen is useful as a quick reference, it also provides accurate focal length display which can be useful for exact shots. It is supplied with a locking, felt lined hood, along with a soft storage cloth bag. Both the hood and lens are Made in Japan, and I would suggest you protect the front element with the best filter you can buy, you can find the Nikon ones for a reasonable cost on Amazon, or look at the Hoya range. Not a lot else to say, its another Nikon classic lens, with superb optical quality, but you do pay a premium.
Been using the older 24-70 2.8g version for many years, this new z version is in another league of optical performance - no more blurry edges; this is sharp all over. Best zoom I've ever used period.
The holy grail of standard zooms and worth buying a Z7 for on its own. Excellent sharpness throughout, very limited aberration, great colour and smooth out of focus blur. Basically a state of the art 24-70mm lens.
Das gute Stück konnte ich direkt vergleichen mit dem 24-70 4.0 und dem 24-70 2.8 G und es ist optisch beiden sehr deutlich überlegen. Randschärfe aber auch die Schärfe im Zentrum sind deutlich besser. Die Handhabung gefällt mir ebenfalls sehr, ich bin begeistert obwohl ich die beiden vorher genannten Objektive ebenfalls besitze, die kommen aber kaum noch zum Einsatz.
This is the sharpest 24-70mm zoom lens I have used. It beats its f4 brother. Contrast and colour rendition are excellent and chromatic aberration is negligable. If anybody is thinking of buying this lens, don't think anymore, go ahead and buy one.
What a great lens from Nikon. Compared to similar f mount lens this is a significant improvement on weight and size. Sharpness excels at short and long ranges. Will have this in my bag for many years to come.
Première journée d'essais, sur un Z6. Mes références sont le 24-70 f 2,8 Tamron G2 qui est déjà excellent et des objectifs fixes Tamron 85 mm et 45 mm considérés comme de très haut niveau. Le NIKKOR Z 24-70mm f/2.8 S est vraiment excellent, meilleur que le zoom Tamron G2 ; surtout il est plus homogène à toutes les focales, avec une très faible perte de netteté sur les bords à pleine ouverture. Je peux enfin prendre des photos sans avoir à me soucier des faiblesses de l'objectif. Je n'ai pas testé le flare, ni le coma (les essais internet sont favorables). A la même ouverture f 2,8 : Il n'est pas tout à fait au niveau des focales fixes précitées, mais en plus elles ouvrent à f 1,8. Je le trouve assez compact pour un zoom f 2,8. Le rendu (contraste couleurs...) me semble aussi remarquables. Bref c'est cher, mais c'est totalement parfait ! (ce que n'étaient pas les zooms 24 - 70 f 2,8 antérieurs de Nikon). Mais si l'on est raisonnable : on peut vraiment faire de très belles photos avec le zoom Tamron (il a, à la pleine ouverture et par rapport au Nikon environ 10% de définition en moins au centre et 25 % sur les bords extrêmes. Mais il faut reconnaître qu'il est assez rare que le sujet photographique exige une parfaite netteté sur les bords à f 2,8 !) A mon avis l'objectif Nikon S doit mieux se justifier avec le Z7 (que je n'ai pas). D'autant plus que la bonne tenue du Nikon S à 70mm permettra en 45 millions de pixels de faire un recadrage important et de disposer en pratique d'un équivalent 24 - 100 même pour des photos tirables à plus de 40 cm.

Leider werden die Käufer von Amazon davon ausgeschlossen, denn Zitat "nach europäischem Recht darf Amazon die Produkte aus verschiedenen Ländern beziehen. Leider bedeutet das für unsere Kunden manchmal, dass Sie Ware erhalten, die nicht von Nikon Deutschland vertrieben wurde und somit auch nicht die verlängerte Objektiv-Garantie enthält." Die Argumentation ist für mich nicht plausibel. Entweder ist Amazon ein Premium-Verkäufer oder nicht. Die Amazon-Käufer auszuschließen ist eigentlich eine Schande und Verarsche. Zu Objektiv: kann schwer beurteilen, ich denke schon, dass es schärfer ist. Recht kleiner, bei 70mm trotzdem recht groß. VIEL VIEL kleinerer max. Abbildungsmaßstab im Vergleich zu dem 24-70 2.8E VR- Objektiv mit aufgeprägtem Focus-Breathing.
Das Objektiv an sich ist wirklich sehr gut in Sachen Bildqualität und Verarbeitung. Jedoch gibt es einen Punkt der mich tatsächlich sehr stört und den ich bei einem Preis von knapp 2000€ nicht erwartet hätte. Der Tubus hat Spiel und erzeugt bei kleinsten Bewegungen ein fühlbares und hörbares „Klappern“. (Videobeispiel) Vielleicht bin ich da zu empfindlich aber für mich fühlt es sich unangenehm und billig an wenn ich das Objektiv an meiner Z6 trage, an der Hüfte bei einem normalen Spaziergang hängen lasse und ich nur dieses Klappern spüre und höre. Das Objektiv war deswegen schon beim Nikon Service Point und es wurde mir versichert, dass andere Z 24-70 2.8 Modelle auch diesen Spiel haben. Ein ziemlicher Rückschlag für mich denn jetzt weiß ich, dass ich damit leben muss.
