Versatility Over Image Quality

There are some pros and cons about this machine - it can get pretty quirky having to deal with the glares and adjust your document frequently to make sure that what you are scanning or shooting is level, but overall it does what it should and produces decent quality images. If you're looking for something that can help you get things scanned perhaps a bit quicker than your more traditional options, or want something that has the additional benefit of being able to let you use it for demonstration videos or something of that nature, then this is a good way to go.
I must mention that the glare from the light can be a consistent struggle, so be prepared to deal with it and experiment with a number of lighting situations until you find one that works for you. So far, I've been scanning magazines and papers, and I have experimented with light coming from two separate sources and angles in different combinations depending on the glares I get back from my documents. Fortunately, the different built-in LED settings you can use offer a wide amount of configurable settings, so I simply play around with the various scenarios until I find one that produces the best results (the least amount of glare and reflection). All in all, it can be a bit obnoxious, but it doesn't ruin everything. It can be dealt with using a bit of patience and determination.
Other than that, the camera quality is pretty good but not spectacular. The images are fairly detailed, but nothing close to what my former Epson scanner used to produce. That being said, they definitely fall within the range of "useable" for personal use, which is all I'm really looking for to help me organize an endless amount of newspapers, magazines, and several other materials such as personal notes etc. so I'm very pleased with the results nonetheless. It exactly fits the purpose I bought it for, so I am quite pleased with it. It does indeed pick up a very good amount of detail, and you are able to read even fine print that you might not expect to be able to, making it a solid camera. The glare is basically the one major "negative" along with the somewhat mediocre image quality - though I certainly wouldn't call the image quality bad, either.
Now I'll talk about the positives of the product. The software is very good and makes it possible to export a variety of useful image and document formats. It is still somewhat basic however, so expect to use some other software such as Adobe's lineup if you are trying to stitch or edit your results further. That being said, much like the hardware, the software also checks all the boxes, covers all the bases, and achieves what it should. There are several options for how you wish to view, manage, produce, and export your files, as well as some handy features that can help you use your images in email or for print, and video and barcode scanning capabilities. You can easily view your final image file names, as well as where it is located on your local filesystem, which makes managing your final pdfs or images much easier. I do think that it is a pretty time-consuming process to export a lenghty pdf which I find a little unfortunate, but it is to be expected I suppose.
Well, that about covers it for my review. If you are a bit flexible in your demands for the product and have an ounce of patience for its quirks and light issues, then this is a practical product that can bring a higher level of speed, efficiency, and organization to your workflow. At $180.00, the price seems fair to me - not necessarily too high or too low. For the price, I wouldn't have minded a bit higher image quality or having no glare issues whatsoever, but at the same time
the incredibly helpful and intuitive software, impressive construction of the hardware, great zoom features, and extended functionality make up for these other potential shortcomings. That really is where the scanner earns it's money - by providing what so many other products simply aren't capable of doing.
To me, that's really what you buy this product for, and I'm glad that I did. I don't regret my purchase and am confident I'll be using my iCONIS to help me organize books, magazines, receipts, product instructions, warranties and much more to de-clutter my daily routine and help bring sanity to my life. Perfect! I'm enjoying it so far, and would not hesitate to recommend - just remember to bring a little patience and learn to live with the quirks, and it's a fabulous product.
