I love these and will recommend. Your cupboards can’t be too thick or it won’t work. It takes a bit to install. Trying to find exact match up etc. I could set up 2/3 fobs. The 3 would not set up but the card does. I’m very happy with it
I haven't installed yet, alignment has a good amount of leeway on the X-Y axis', whereas Z is latch insertion, Z leeway is a bit less and has a hard minimum penetration requirement, but actually getting the latch to the center of the X-Y 'safe' zone may be a challenge depending on the cabinet you're using. No templates are included, and the mount fastener configuration geometry is irregular/non-intuitive, yet effective.
Now, the unit does function as expected, solid-state wise. However, as at least one other person has stated, you need to mind the mode you're in after you mess around with that reset button or pull the power source. At least the admin card will always open the thing regardless of mode. The unit does behave a bit unexpectedly in dual key mode, and at least once it would seem the admin key ID was actually exchanged between keys somehow, which I cannot explain without disassembly and a day of reverse engineering. I only plan on using a single RFID tag for access as of right now; the other tags will be spares and the card will operate as my administrator card.
You can mix them around however you please; an RFID key is an RFID key as long as the key format is familiar to the device/controller and the proper inductor coil resonance is used for the given device(makes a difference with distance to key by small dynamic figure as far as efficiency; using an improper tuned inductor coil lair, you may lose distance or apparent sensitivity for reading a key, but this can vary even further with coil dimensions and power parameters. This kit does not seem to be precisely tuned, but you should have no issue using the included keys/card through a ¾-1" WOODEN cabinet face. Using metal cabinets is possible, but it will be difficult as you're basically using a VLP RF device along with an inductive, or magnetically coupled if you prefer, VLP current source through a Faraday cage). Simply, a best case scenario here, you may see positive, repeatable responsiveness at about 1¼" away, worst case, literally zero responsiveness. It's important to test this without any fasteners first, especially if you end up with zero power field or RF transmissivity on accident.
I will be using an external power supply most likely, just a compact, managed li-ion cluster of my own design to operate the unit for an extended period over unmanaged alkaline or NIMH cells. I am also going to add a hidden 911 pigtail to use an external power source to open in this case, as I'll be effectively disarming the batteries-are-dying auto open feature intentionally.
For the price, it's good for sure. I actually just used some reward points to buy it, I don't actually NEED this, I just think it'll be useful for light security/deterrent and keeping my son out of a given cabinet or drawer. This isn't going to make anything into a B-rated safe obviously.. (if that isn't obvious, you should rethink your considerations for physical security and educate yourself!) But this will make for a mildly protected area.
Again, I do plan on modifying mine a bit, and depending on what my exact application ends up being, I may do some additional solid state controller changes as well.
This is one slick product. I saw this and new I needed it to turn a draw in one of my pieces of furniture into a locked safe. I won't tell you want I keep in it! But I can tell you that this product is completely hidden from view, so no one would even know that the drawer cannot be opened unless they tried to open it. The fob key that unlocks the locking mechanism is flawless. I'm so glad I got this product.
Lock works well and does what it states it will do. It does exactly what I wanted. Only difficult part of installing it for me was some measurements. They aren't any... Mounting distances/directions for the inside clasp would have been helpful.
With good mechanical and carpentry skills this was easy to install. But, no instructions as far as installation. I hope when the batteries run low the unit unlocks as described or it will cause a lot of problems.
My only issue is the lack of installation instructions.
Positioning the parts was a bear.
After the frustration faded away I used double stick tape to get the receiver and latch in the correct position and then screwed them in place. I used this on an old oak desk. The door thickness is 3/4” and the unit unlocks as it should. I would purchase again
