Software is really not great
Reviewed in Australia on 1 August 2020
I bought this Denon AVR as my first ever AVR. I have also bought a set of 5.1 passive speakers + 2 additional front atmos height speakers to connect to it.
Sound-wise, it's fine really.... I guess... I'll be honest I am not too picky on this regard.
While the initial setup was very guided and simple enough, I find the settings screen afterwards to be way too complex and the user interface is terribly non-user friendly (and looks really bad).
Switching input is very slow, especially when they are 4K HDR. There are plenty of software bugs (HDMI CEC switching input, AirPlay 2 mode not allowing to change volume reliably, the AVR going in stand-by mode because it was turned on on one input and another took precedence via HDMI CEC and the Denon AVR didn't reset its standby timer... the list goes on).
The phone app is okay at best... (does not always sync with the device, does not display all settings, there is a bug when you select a mode where it does not remember it...).
Honestly I am quite disappointed with the product. I expected a 2019 product to be faster, to have a better user interface and to have a remote that does not require line of sight (infrared...). With hindsight, I would buy a different brand
