I just got these in and they are a lot smaller than I imagined they were. I'm a little person with little hands and used them to show the relative size of the molds. I imagine you will need a lot of them to pull up a glass. Maybe the whole sheet. They are adorable though. The kids are made of silicone too which I didn't expect and they are cute and unobtrusive in the freezer. Since they stack they have a little more stability. I may buy a couple more so I have enough ice cubes to entertain more than one person.
It took about 2 cups of liquid to fill 1 ice tray. Im use my ice trays to make coffee ice cubes because I don't like the ice diluting my cold coffee and making it taste watered down. I like the fun shape of these cubes and they effortlessly pop out of the silicone tray! The tray even has a lid which is nice. Great little tray
Recommend that these be soaked in warm soapy water for a half an hour and rinsed thoroughly before use. If rinsed and then filled without soaking, the ice cubes will have a strange aftertaste. Just washing them before you is not enough. This is based on hand wash method. Dishwasher might be different.
Very flexible, however, the cubes can be a little bit difficult to pop out. It's a learn as you go process. Use the plastic lids provided. They are particularly important during transport from your sink to the freezer because when you fill these trays up they are very soft and a little floppy. placing one tray on top of the other with the lids in place on both makes the much firmer and easier to transport. The ice also freezes better with the transparent lids on.
Because if so, I'm really weird. I'm used to using hard plastic trays, which are a pain to remove ice from, and are prone to cracking. These silicone trays are super flexible and are actually really fun to pop ice out of-- it's strangely satisfying! The smaller size of the ice cubes means that they fit really well in most bottles and containers. Overall, just a really good choice.
Love these. The ice comes out so easily and is a really cool shape. I love that they have a lid too. My only complaint is that the cubes are pretty small so I will probably need to order way more ice trays if I wanted to have guests over or anything. It takes more than half a tray to fill one glass.
I got this to make frozen coffee cubes so I don’t water down my lovely homemade iced lattes in the morning. The cubes are small, but that actually doesn’t bother me. I use my fridge’s ice maker ice to quickly cool fresh espresso, remove the water ice cubes, and replace them with just a few coffee cubes from this mold. In my insulated coffee cup, just a few of these little coffee cubes keeps my coffee the perfect chilly temperature all day long. Super easy to clean, too!
This ice cube maker makes small ice cubes in a hexagonal shape. When I received them, they did not have any kind of funny smell to them, and there was no funny taste to the cubes.
Any buyers should be aware, that the ice cube tray covers come attached to each other. You just have to pull them apart, and you will have two tray covers. Not sure why they did it this way, and there are no instructions or any kind of pull tab to indicate that they are indeed two covers, and not one ill designed cover.
I had two main issues with these molds. First, you have to remove the ice cubes individually. These aren't like plastic trays, where you can bend and crack the ice cubes loose at one time. You can bend them, but I haven't had much success in pulling out a single cube out of the silicon mold. The second issue is that these are pure silicon molds. So they bend rather easily. Even with the cover on, I found that it's hard to get back in the freezer without spilling water. The cover does not snap on to the tray. It more just covers the tray loosely. Also, the cube molds go all the way up to the cover length. There is no small gap like you would have in plastic trays where water can run off to, to lesser filled areas.
Overall though, this accomplishes it's goal of making cubes that don't taste and smell like whatever is in your freezer. The cubes are small, probably half the size of a normal cube made from a plastic tray.
Initial review :Hard to fill and hard to remove ice cubes once frozen. Second review: Dropped from 2 stars to 1 star. Besides small cubes and difficulty removing cubes; was using cubes in lemonade initially. When used them in water and a clear glass, can clearly see residue in the glass. Thoroughly washed these in hot water and Dawn before each use. Concerned with what is being ingested with use of this product. Silicone?
Bought these to freeze baby food purées so the small cells we’re actually a good thing. I figured I could add defrost small portions of each purée as needed. They were hard to clean initially because I wanted to scrub them really well but after that nothing stuck to the sides so a quick rinse was ok.
Would the ice keep for long, doubt it because they are already small but they would be cute shapes.
The actual tray was pretty sturdy and didn’t bend no matter how full it was. The only thing I didn’t like so much was the top, very flimsy and looks big. I have another square silicone tray and the top sort of clips on I’m guessing these can’t because of the odd shape. All in all, good purchase.
