Was a great addition to my existing Philips Hue devices. I setup bulbs in my Garage, Porch and Patio and can now remotely control them from anywhere using the Apple Home App. The garage bulb is set up to turn on at night when the garage door opens and I can turn them all off by telling Siri “Lights Out”.
I wanted to get started with smart bulbs but know very little about them and how they work. I don’t have an Alexa and don’t want to purchase a Hue Bridge so just wanted something I can control via an app on my phone.
Philips Hue seem to be regarded as the best smart bulbs available, although they are quite expensive for what they are so I stuck to the basics and just got the warm white bulbs which can be dimmed. I mainly wanted a dimmable bulb for my bedroom lamp as it tends to be too bright if I wake up during the night and switch it on.
I’m very pleased with these bulbs despite feeling like they are overpriced. Setting them up was so easy - just screw them in, switch the lamps on, and the Philips Hue Bluetooth app discovered the bulbs and connected in a few seconds. As my flat is small the Bluetooth range works everywhere, so I can switch on a lamp before I enter a room! The app is easy to use and the bulbs seem to be very responsive to the on/off and dimming controls. The bulbs are also a nice warm white colour and have good brightness.
As far as I’ve seen these bulbs will work with most new smartphones but not older ones, so I would suggest checking if your smartphone and operating system are supported before buying.
I’m not sure if the experience would be as straightforward when trying to connect with a Hue Bridge or Alexa, but if you’re just looking for a simple way to join the world of smart bulbs I would definitely recommend these.
