How are ratings calculated?
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.

Verity Reads Books (a lot of them)
2.0 out of 5 stars Too many mistakes in the British details

I've liked Jenn McKinlay's books previously, but this just had too many mistakes in the details about British life and London for me to be able to get swept away in the mystery. I've read two of the later books in this series, which also had some similar mistakes in, which probably meant I was less willing to give this a pass. The mystery is ok in itself, it's the surroundings that aren't really. I'll be avoiding this series in future. And maybe looking at her US-set ones with a slightly more critical eye on the details.

Jenny McKinley. Not someone I had read before but after one of her hotshot mysteries I found myself eager for more.

Scarlett is a fun loving extrovert who has a talent for getting along with people - having been played by a man in the states she goes to England, where she is a dual citizen, to work in the shop she is half owner in - I found this novel a really good mystery - loved the playfulness of the main characters, I hope Nick and Andre stay in the rest of the series - new author for me but I will definitely be reading more of her stories

Read the story in two sittings. The protagonist is really likeable and makes you want to get to the bottom of the riddle. There's not exactly the type of suspense you'd find in the ordinary murder mystery, but if you do judge a book by it's cover, you probably weren't looking for that,in the first place. Village charms, relationships and a murderer in the midst of that. Looking forward to reading more.
