Uae it for out side. As the wyze V2 fits nice and snug the night camera does not work. As the red dots for the sensors are covered up and reflect off the front of the case causing a smeering effect. Not giving a clear image.
I wanted to install a Wyze cam outdoors on a balcony which is covered by a roof, but sometimes the rain blows in. I bought this unit to protect the camera.
It's plastic and appears to be two slightly different shades - the camera housing is more creamy white while the base is white. The camera is enclosed in the case and then 4 deeply inset screws are used to hold it together. This requires a long, narrow Phillips small head screwdriver like what you get in the micro/mini screwdriver kits. The base comes with 3 screws to attach it to the wall. The camera housing is screwed on to the base, but the base itself is in two parts, the actual base then the part to which the camera is attached and this part is easily detached by simply unscrewing it from the base. This means that the camera could be removed fairly easily if placed low enough.
The case completely encloses the camera except for a small spot where the USB cable comes in, this makes me concerned about possible overheating of the camera.
This is a nice sturdy case for the Wyze Cam, with a tight and secure fit. However, it is not waterproof! The front openings (for the camera lens/mic) does not have any type of seal, neither has the coupling between the front and back housing portions. In addition, there is also a cable port in the back that is also not sealed (though it does has a down facing shield). Bottom line, this case might prevent water light rain falling straight down from getting into the inside, but it will not keep your camera dry by itself. If used stock it must be installed under an awning or place not directly exposed to rain. At most, this case should be considered water resistant (not waterproof)
HOWEVER, I glued a piece of 1/16" foam rubber to the inside front, applied a thin bead of silicone to the connection between the front and back cover portions, and plugged the cord port (also with silicone); that should substantially improve this housing's capacity to withstand rain.
Great product but when using with a bridge It does not close completely. I bought this to go with the sense kit/camera bundle.
I took a Dremel to shave the plastic covering the mounting screw to make it halfway close with a bridge. This still left a gap which I sealed with some black duct tape.
I should have read the other reviews but not knowing what a “bridge” is and the fact you need at least one camera to connect the sense kit to makes this product not worth it for a one camera house with a sense kit.
It be awesome if you included it does not work with a bridge/sense kit in the description for future buyers.
If I do get another “outdoor” camera I would prob buy this again if there is not a version that supports a bridge
These things do what they are supposed to do but they are kind of a pain. They way they are designed, the power cord hole on the back is arched so the cord does not get wet. However this makes it hard to for the first installation and if u need to take the back cover off anytime in the future. It's hard to explain. Overall a good product but it seems like the design team never touched or have ever used these before.
Packed very poorly. I think it was curb stomped. They claim it is weather proof, which would imply that it could be mounted outside. I would not, unless you added some silicone around the front opening and fill the cable hole as well. The cameras put off a little heat and would attract insects if you leave that hole open. I would not buy this brand again.
It’s a good addon for the Wyze cam. I now don’t have to worry that someone might steal the camera. However, it the package either didn’t include the mounting screws or assembly screws because it only had 3 screws while it needs 3 to close the assembly and 3 to mount to the wall. Also, it does not completely seal the camera as there is no weatherstrip or rubber between the gaps, so getting it soaked wet may cause issue.
I bought these so I can use my Wyze cams outside for security purposes. The way the cord has to be inserted into the back panel is kind of awkward. It has to be in the housing just right, or it the front half won't attach.
The access holes for the screw that hold the 2 pieces together are very small and very deep... meaning; it is difficult to find a screw driver that fits.
Since you have to take these apart everytime you need to access the camera, I just quit screwing the 2 halves of the housing together... I clip them and then use utility tape around the seam to hold them/make them water tight.
These covers seem to accomplish their main goal of protecting the camera inside... so far. But the idea and design could use A LOT of improvement.
Annoying how they didnt give a little screw driver for the screws. Because not everyone has a bunch of tools to choose one that perfect for every screw out there. Well I ended up stripping a screw and I coulding open it I ended up breaking a corner off just annoying but did its job.
