These are not state of the art but they are very good for value/performance. The initial impression is excellent; bright, sharp and clear with good contrast. Detailed testing show a few minor imperfections, but they are relatively minor. They are not Swavorskis. There is a sweet spot very slightly below the centre where chromatic aberration, colour fringing, is negligible and resolution really very good. Above this point there is a little magenta fringing, and below a little turquoise fringing, on high contrast edges. This limits the results just a little at longer ranges, but you'll have to spend big money to get much better. Resolution is very good for about the central 60-70% of the large apparent field of view vertically, and good throughout horizontally. There is some pincushion distortion but really you have to look for it.
Build quality is really good, they feel like a premium product.
A first pair came with a soft case with an unstitching logo and were returned. The binos were fine and optical performance seems extremely sample-consistent.
Identical in every way from the previous version apart from an upgrade to the optics, HD glass, extra coatings, one being to help prevent scratching of outer surfaces on the lens and an upgraded prism design. comes with the Glass Pack case that can be used as a chest high case or just a regular slip on style. Visually when compared with the previous version their is a slight increase in image brightness and a little less Chromatic Abberation. I thinks its a very good buy for the price.
I find the new version of the Diamondback (2019) to be improved over the previous model (2017 or 2018) which itself had been redesigned. The new Diamonback optics are bright and clear and sharpness is very good. A birding site rated the new Diamondback as a significant improvement over the previous model and I agree after having used it for over a month now. Initially, I thought about getting the more expensive model but I am not gingering the binoculars in the field so I am more comfortable with the Diamondback. It gets the job done and with really good optics.
I love these bins! I lost my first pair of Vortex (or misplaced them...) and I was so satisfied with my first pair that I got another pair of Vortex. They are affordable and as great as others! The quality is beautiful and perfect for birders :)
