Used this on my last hunting trip. A blizzard hit and thought this would come in handy to light the fire it was supposed to light and burn for up tp 15 minutes it actually lasted less than 10 seconds. It was subzero temps but I had bought the winter mix . Big disappointment. The dryer lint I brought and cost nothing saved the day.
I was very skeptical at first as being a putty/paste it seemed like a novelty item. However, this fire stuff exceeds my expectations by a long shot. Took it snowmobiling over the weekend and built a fire on the snow with ease. Followed direction by exposing the fibers and it lit instantly. I also tried lighting it without the fibers exposed and it wouldn’t light, also dropped it in snow and water like the video and squished out as much water as I could and lit that. (I was checking to see how flammable it was, very impressed on this. Much safer than gasoline :) ) I’ve tried most fire starters and home built fire starters, in my opinion this is the best of them all. The price is perfect as you can build a lot of fires with one can. I’m Curious how the other colors perform. I will be buying more. Need one for every vehicle, snowmobile, and backpack. Awesome!!!
As a backcountry hunter, I’m always looking for new products to try and see if I can make my experiences better! After a rain or snow fall, it can be quite the task sometimes to get a fire started! I have always carried around military grade “trioxane” which is an incredible fire starter! IMO... Pyro Putty doesn’t light as fast or good as good old trioxane. It takes a second to light. With that being said, PP is in the little silver canisters which is very clean and convenient. Trioxane needs to be put in a zip lock or something after opening as it will crumble. All in all, I would recommend this product! Might be tougher to get going with a piece of flint, but just make sure you have a good dry lighter and it will definitely help you get a fire going!!!!

Convenient and practical

I wanted to give this product a real test. I took a ball just less than a quarter size to see what it would do to a damp board. I went out in the yard and found a damp “stick” that had been lying around. Please see pic #1. It was by no means a piece of kindling, probably around a 1x2. Let me say that this stuff ignites! I barely touched it with flame, and “poof”. No skills required to make a fire at all. The pyro putty burnt hot and long. At about the 4 minute mark, it fell off the board. (I had turned the pyro putty to the underside of the board once lit.). See pic #2. It kept on burning, and was no problem to continue burning the board. At the 7 minute mark, there was still a nice flame going...pic #3. At the 12 minute mark, pic 4, there has been considerable burning to both the board, and the board under the pyro putty (note: the board under the putty was a remnant from a prior fire in the pit.). Their claims that a quarter size ball will burn for 15 minutes is true and accurate. It is also true that this is an amazing product, which I will recommend to anyone I talk to about fire-starting or anything of the like. The next night, I wanted to actually see how little I could get away with and start a real fire using kindling, etc. let me say that again, no skills are needed with this product. Just grab and be impressed. Great stuff! Highly recommend.

Pros: 1.the material is not toxic 2.When handling it's not transferring chemical our residue. 3. The weight tattoo is not bad 4. Container is fairly ridgid ready for reuse
Cons: 1. Hard to light rain or high humidity. 2. Doesn't burn long enough to generate heat for kindling ignition. 3. Quantity required for fire makes can one or two time use. Note thisis the winter version in the environment out was designed.
I purchase the winter blue mix. I had a specific hike coming up. Rucksack 72 hour hike. Already knew it was going to be very cold and potentially wet Three River Crossings. Both Knights were extremely cold down into the twenties, mid-twenties on the second night. First night it was raining next night it's just plain moist everything. Town the driest wood little shavings got the dryer material on the ground gotta fire up perfect protocols. Tried about the size of a quarter diameter. Fail! tried a quarter-size in a ball diameter it failed as well. It was very hard to light even with the lighter. When it burned it just did not burn with any intensity or length of time to sustain a fire under those conditions which it's designed for which is why it has the low rating. I have noted those that gave the blue high rating went out and tested as in their homes. The ones that I've given it a low rating are the ones that actually tested it in the environment it was designed. Not thoroughly going to give up on the product I'm probably going to try one of the medium products for warmer temperatures see how it does. Yes I use the Vaseline and cotton ball for extremely less but I don't like the residue transfer. Fortunately on this hike I had brought my old standby packet brickets that I carry. It worked perfectly on the other side of the fire to get the fire going like I said it was 20 degrees.
First thing after opening the box, admiring the great (and unexpected) carry sack, reading the handwritten notes that addressed me by name from Skoped staff, I globbed and quarter sized ball of the eco on a stick and hit it with a ferro rod. Second stroke gave a hot and active flame that lasted a few seconds over 15 min...exactly as advertised. This stuff is great, the customer service is great, and the price is frankly below what I would be willing to pay. Highly recommended
I'm not sure what I was expecting. I got as an experiment to see if it would be a good alternative for char cloth when camping. Got it today, went out to the firepit just to test it and play around a little bit. It works amazingly well. Started up good and burned longer then I thought it would, could easily start a good fire with just a little bit.
The only downside is I prefer to use arc lighters and I couldn't get it started with my arc. But once I got a normal lighter out had no problems.
I have been seeing this stuff for quite some time. And I’ve been kind of kicking around the idea about buying some and trying it. Needless to say I am very happy that I did! Previous to this I was using cotton balls and Vaseline. It was very messy and definitely not waterproof and did not light up with the same intensity. I would say that this is a must have for any emergency/survival pack! Also if you Hunt or fish or hike or recreate outside at all I would certainly buy a couple cans of this!
I will edit as I have not used the product yet. I am a kayak camper and avid kayaker in general and I always have A good kit for cooking, fire, survival, water, etc while I am kayaking every where I go. I am always looking for inovative ways to start fires in the wild. I have the usual stuff; but, pyro putty is different. So I bought some. I have not used yet and was waiting until I used to give a review. I won't waste to give it a go in the woodstove as it's inside and not out in the elements to give everyone an idea if this is usable. The only cons so far are that it's hard to pull into a ball (needs smaller fibers) and it smells like kerosene. When I use I'll add a more detailed review and some pictures while its burning.
After I read the reviews and watched the videos, I couldn't wait to try Pyro Putty. All the accolades are well deserved and true. This stuff is amazing! This is one of those inexpensive yet indispensable camping staples that you will simply love. A small pinch ( the size of a pea) used as test on a completely rain soaked piece of bark ignited easily and burned with a smooth, tall, very uniform flame solidly for over two minutes. We could have easily converted this into a nice fire if we wanted to - and we surely will on our next camping excursion. Tin container is sturdy and seals solidly airtight. No liquid fraction whatsoever; nothing to "spill". Has a very mild and actually pleasant aroma - which you can only smell if you are directly attempting to do so with the container open (can't smell anything with the container closed). Pyro putty doesn't smell at all like you'd expect something flammable to, even when burning. Putty is extremely malleable to suit whatever shape or position you prefer and leaves only a slight residue on the hands that is easily wiped off. Great price, shipped quickly, with not issues or problems. This is an absolute no brainer - this is a purchase you'll be very happy with all ways around. Highly Recommended!
