To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.
I wish I had read the reviews before I bought this. The product and functionality is all fine, however only for 3 months during the free trial period of the subscription service. After that it became essentially useless. Without the subscription service, you won't have any of the additional features (colored night vision, intelligence recognition, etc.), not even the basic feature of video recording. (local storage is useless as other reviews indicated)
Basically, this product upgrade from Pro 2 to Pro 3 is a pricing trap to lock you into the subscription service. All companies are looking for recurring revenue from their customers, and this is Arlo's attempt to do so in a very sneaky way (stripping important features away for non-subscription users who spent $150+ for just one camera).
Unless you are willing to fall into that trap by paying monthly fees (on top of the big upfront cost of buying the cameras and base stations), you definitely want to think twice before buying this.
VERY SNEAKY sales gimmick. Sell you something that works great for 3 months (on their 3 month free recording service) Conveniently putting you beyond the RETURN DATE ON AMAZON. When you go to record to your own storage device it simply WILL NOT WORK. No matter HOW many tech supports you try, online forums you read through and various hard drives you test. All the other ARLOS we have (first gens) record just fine. But this piece of CRAP is a sale trick to get you to give up and pay $10/ month for their recording service. Also, we bought the solar charging unit for it -- and it doesn't charge! DONE DONE DONE with ARLO. TERRIBLE customer support and big SCAM with these cameras.
