To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.
My old HDD was about to kick the bucket and I had to get a replacement. Initially thought of getting a mechanical HDD and was searching for HDD with decent performance but couldn't find any that was value for money. Had a look at SSD's and did a bit of research and found that speeds were drastically higher than HDD's.
Made up my mind - period.
Saw that Crucial had the best deal and good reviews as well - took a chance and went for it.
Couldn't be happier. Cloning software had a few errors but still completed the cloning process.
Installed it in my old laptop and was blown away by the performance when it booted up - Like FIRE!!! Felt even better than a new laptop. Booting up took just a few seconds and after that opening even applications was blazing quick.
Couldn't be happier with my purchase - money well spent!!!
I bought this to replace a 5400rpm HDD for a 6 year old "cheap when new" laptop. The laptop had previously been upgraded to Windows 10 which was an improvement when compared to Windows 8 but it still struggled to do anything that read IO intensive.
I decided that I'd replace the drive with the same size SSD and I've not been disappointed. The performance boost the laptop has gained by changing to an SSD means that the machine is now entirely usable.
It boots quickly, applications load almost instantly, windows updates takes less time. In short it's like having a new laptop which is impressive for the cost of a new SSD.
Having the same form factor as a 2.5" SATA few means installation is as easy or hard as your laptop makes it. Every laptop has different levels of access and this one made things difficult as there are no access panels. The entire top fascia and keyboard had to come off to cut the drive. Once access was gained, switching the drive in the caddy was easy enough.
If I needed to upgrade another machine in the future, I wouldn't hesitate to get another one off these. Possibly even with a larger capacity too.
Super fast once installed, with ram extended to 16GB. Good SSD.
Only problems were from my ignorance, having forgotten how I used to clone my hard drives, been quite a while since the last time I had to do this :-)
Bought a 1TB Crucial BX500 SSD drive as I had damaged a partition on my laptop SSD, so it added a complexity to cloning the drive until it finally dawned on me to just clone from my other spare laptop which has a normal hdd.
I also think that free programs for cloning do not handle cloning from SSD drivers and do not give a trial period so I wasn't prepared to fork over money for software that I cannot be sure will do the job required.
Finally bought two of these to replace the frustratingly slow hard drives on my desk pc and a laptop. Easy to install and no hitches. I've upgraded several machines with solid-state components, but I still find the instructional vids useful. You download Acronis software from the net before you take your old drive out, in order to clone (make an exact copy of your drive) on the new ssd. After installing the ssd I delete Acronis from the new drive because Windows 10 apparently does the same ongoing maintenance tasks. The drives appear to work faultlessly and fast. If you haven't done this before, you will need a usb to sata cable, so that you can connect the ssd to the laptop during the cloning stage. Watch the installation video before you buy; might be worth buying an 'installation kit' with the cable included. Both my machines are a joy to use now.
